Late last night, it was announced that the union workers at SBC (about 2/3 of our total 165k employees) would probably be giving 24 hours' notice of a strike. Well, until you get that job, I guess the best you can do is do twice as shitty a job. That's what I'd do.

I dunno, I think that if I were in that situation the thing I'd be worried most about is having to cross a picket line to go to work.

Not a problem - there are surprisingly few union workers in this gigantic building. Plus, any picket area they set up is essentuially worthless ...we're set back about 600 or 800 yards from the nearest road. And the nearest road is Interstate 90 - they won't really attract too many people's attention picketing near I-90.

There are legit concerns about those people (like half of my department)who have been reassigned to union shops in Texas, Michigan, Missouri and California. The company has been nice enough to hire buses to move people from hotels to the SBC buildings every day. No armed escorts, though. I think they need armed escorts.
