I spent the last 2 days in bed because I wasn't feeling well enough to come downstairs. This morning it took two tries to get down here but I made it because I was determined not to give in. The chemo nurses warned that 7-10 days after treatment I would start to feel flu-like symptoms so I am going to chalk it up to that and try to get on with ( Read more... )

re: hygiene. two thoughts that might make it easier. one is a bath bench, a plastic seat that goes in the tub so you can sit instead of stand. there's the shorter kind with all four legs in the tub (previous link), and the longer kind with two legs in the tub, and two outside like this one. my dad preferred the latter - said it was easier to get in and out when he could sit before having to move his legs over the edge of the tub. also, a hand-held shower head with a hose so you can bring the water down to the bath bench.

and yay for some progress with the disability people, anyway.

I have both a tub seat and a hand held shower head. The tub seat is a loaner from the red cross free for 3 months as are my walker and raised toilet seats. The problem is that I have to get Greg to tape plastic over all my dressings for the wounds on my tummy and where the nephrostomy tubes come out of my back and then assist me getting in/out of the tub. It's been a lower priority with all the gross ostomy stuff to deal with and with the way I've been feeling but now that I'm starting to feel a little stronger it will become a priority again. When the cat starts cuddling up because she the smell of my armpit better than Greg's it'll get remedied :)

But thanks for the suggestions, it proves we did the right thing by getting the tub chair and stuff for me to use at home.

*nodding* so it's the hassle factors rather than the leg-strength factor. hmmmmm ..... put the tub chair in front of the sink and have a sponge bath? (and let me know if you don't want more suggestions)

AMY! AMY! AMY!

I was just talking about you this morning. I need you to come here and teach me how to jab myself with a needle every day. So far I can't do it which really sucks because I have to have a home care nurse come over every morning to give me the shot. It would be so much easier for everyone if I weren't such a feeb and could do it myself. I've gained another whole level of respect for you because you can do this. Come teach me how so that I might be able be less feeb-like :)

LOVE YOU, TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're NOT a feeb dearest heart! If it's an intramuscular needle that's a whole different ball of wax than these super thin hair fine things I jab myself with. ^_ ( ... )
