For the record, let me state my prejudice here.
I find Ragtime to be one of the most heart-moving, genuine, American, enjoyable musicals out there.   It competes with Les Miserables for my favorite of all time due to the strong character studies and compelling storyline and straight up truth about who we are as humans.

I feel the exact same way when they ban and criticsize Huck Finn, one of my all-time favorite books. It's about racism and the idiocy of it. To be realistic, it used racist language and has racist characters. Are we supposed to ignore all of that in our history just because its offensive now? That, to me, is so much worse and more offensive. You got to face it to deal with it.

I was thinking about this. How would many war time books and movies would be considered just as good if all the elements of horrific violence and brutal death were removed or ignored within them?
