Biggest tip? Get two. The majority of cats are social and are happier with other feline company. Also takes a lot of pressure off the humans when you do have to be gone. A lot of shelters end up with bonded adult pairs, and the poor things often wait ages, or get split up so they're adoptable.

Yay, cat! I would say that the main advantage to adult cats is that they're a lot mellower than kittens, plus they need homes because everyone always wants the kittens. I don't know that I have specific advice, but I've had cats my whole life, so I could maybe answer questions?

Thanks!! I'm sure we'll have some at some point, so I'll keep you in mind to be harassed about cats!

So happy you're going to a shelter, rather than buy one and I'm even happier you're going to get an adult or two. The adults always get the short end of the stick and it's wonderful to save lives.:D

I've heard that too, quite a lot, about adult cats. It's so sad too -- there are so many sweet, not to mention low-key, adult cats!
