I'm listening to the "Restaurant at the End of the Universe" audiobook, read by Martin Freeman. I like audiobooks even less than I like audio plays*, but 1) I have a sudden huge love for Martin Freeman's voice, and 2) I know the book so well I don't actually need to follow the plot closely ( Read more... )

But as early as I can remember, I could read so much faster than the person reading to me. I was done, I was ready to move on to the next page

THIS! I did exactly the same thing, though I absolutely loved the being read too. I'd look at the pictures and ask questions while they finished the page.

I haven't listened to audiobooks in a while, but I have discovered a love for Big Finish audios. I find that they only work when I am doing something else though. I'll listen to them when cleaning or washing dishes or going on walks (trying that exercise thing that I've heard so much about) It helps me not get distracted from the story when I've got some else I'm doing at the same time, which makes little sense, but oh well

Who the heck decided that Zaphod should sound American? Ish.

Have you seen the trailer for Freeman's latest play? The accent is...yeah.

I've only ever seen two British actors who can do a really convincing American accent. I'm not sure what it is that makes it so hard for them to grasp...must just be a very slippery accent; ie, not very much to hang onto.

Right there with you about the voice in general, though. Definitely feeling the love for the old Freeman pipes lately. :)
