Canon Holmes always makes fun of police incompetence but was tolerant of Lestrade for the most part.
It's the early radio shows and films that made Lestrade more of a bungling idiot but then look what they did to Watson too. *shudders*
Still, if Lestrade were not being played by the awfully attractive Graves he would not be receiving this level of attention. Lestrade in the recent RDJ film version is more integral to the plot, working quite closely with Sherlock and I notice no one's writing about/talking about him very much.
Ah, the power of a pretty face. *g* <--- I've succumbed a little myself, this is the first version of the Holmes stories where I've ever even considered anything but Holmes/Watson.
