Yuuri Shibuya Kyou Kara Maou! Personality:
Yuuri is mostly just an average high school student. He’s friendly and is nice to just about anyone who speaks to him; he also cares about his friends to the point where he’ll get upset if they’re in a situation that’s even mildly dangerous or hurt in any way. Yuuri is a very trusting person, and he believes that everyone has at least some amount of goodness in them. Since he thinks this, Yuuri is quick to forgive others even if they betray him. Yuuri cares about everyone he meets, and he believes in giving everyone equal amounts of love, whether they are family or someone he met only the day before.
Yuuri also has a very strong sense of justice. If anyone is mistreated while he is around, he will do whatever he can to stop it even if that means putting himself in danger. It doesn’t matter who is being treated badly, either. Yuuri will help anyone, whether he knows them or not. The possibility that someone may be hurt can often send him over the edge, which causes him to transform into the Maou, who gives punishment to the ones who harmed the people who Yuuri was trying to protect. This shows just how much the well-being and proper treatment of others matters to him.
This strong view of justice also ties into the fact that he doesn’t like to stand back and watch while terrible things around him happen. Even though his safety comes first to everyone around him, he always protests escaping or standing in the back during a dangerous situation. No matter what, he would always rather be in the middle of the action and actually doing something about the situation at hand. Yuuri is more concentrated on doing whatever possible to make sure everyone else around him is safe, and he puts his own well-being on the line to do that.
Going hand-in-hand with his sense of justice are Yuuri’s ideals. As king, he aims for a world where everyone can get along with one another, regardless of race. The fact that they don’t pains him, and that pain only makes him want to change the way things are even more. He goes out of his way to show the humans that the demons are, in fact, not all bad. He’s also completely against war of any kind, and will do anything to stop it, including running into the middle of a battlefield if it means he can get others to listen to what he has to say. As long as he can prevent the unnecessary deaths of others, Yuuri is willing to do what he can. With his ability to get others to believe in him and what he stands by, Yuuri is able to lead others to create a better world to live in.
Despite being king and having very difficult goals, Yuuri doesn’t put much thought into his actions or words. If he disagrees with something, he won’t think twice to voice his opinion even if it can land him into trouble. Rather than listening to reason, Yuuri will often rely on his emotions and also act purely on instinct. He also lives in the present without much thought to the future whatsoever. Yuuri’s more concerned about remedying a situation at the moment, rather than working slowly to make everything turn out for the better in the future.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Yuuri is extremely lucky. If he finds himself in a bad situation, someone often appears to save him or something happens that gives Yuuri a chance to escape. In fights, he often finds himself dodging attacks by luck despite the fact that he’s not a very good fighter.
+He can make friends very easily due to the fact that he’s very amiable and kind. One smile from Yuuri can make others instantly take a liking to him.
+He stands by his beliefs and doesn’t waver in them for a moment. By seeing how much he believes in his ideals, others are willing to believe in whatever he does.
+Takes everything in stride, even if crazy things are thrown at him. Although he didn’t believe that he was in another world at first, Yuuri did accept the fact quickly when everything was explained to him and he adjusted quickly even though he did have mishaps with several customs he was unfamiliar with. This shows that he doesn’t have problems adjusting to different settings and that he doesn’t let strange things like that upset him.
+He has good leadership skills even though he was suddenly pushed into a position of king, Yuuri quickly adjusted to that and learned how to become a leader all on his own.
-Trusts others too easily, and he puts faith in everyone even if they have shown that they can’t be trusted beforehand. Due to this, Yuuri can easily get betrayed.
-Doesn’t care about his own safety compared to others. This can lead to him getting injured, or even killed.
-Not a skilled fighter. He can’t use a sword very well, which is the main way of fighting in Shin Makoku.
-Not exactly perceptive, so sometimes it takes a while for him to figure out other people’s motives and feelings. His inability to pick up on things can lead to misunderstandings.
-He lets his emotions rule his actions, so he doesn’t always think things through and this can sometimes cause harm to himself or to those around him.
-Speaks before he thinks which sometimes lands him into trouble because he doesn’t always consider that what he says may not be the right thing to say at the time.

[When the Gear turns on, for a few seconds all that can be seen is the sky. Then, a hand reaches over and into the view of the camera as someone picks up the Gear. It soon shifts over to point down at Yuuri, who is laying down on the grass, his Horsea lying next him.] It’s really hot out here. I wish there was a swimming pool near here or something. [He sighs and wipes a hand across his forehead.]
Anyway, I was wondering… Where exactly am I? I mean I know what pokémon are but I can’t really be in that world right? After all, it’s just a game. [He laughs a little.] This all has to be a dream or some elaborate prank. I mean, this kind of thing has already happened to me before, but the possibility of it happening again is really low.
So, well, what I’m trying to say is… How exactly do I wake up from this dream?
Third Person Sample:
When Yuuri woke up he went through several moments of confusion. According to his memory, Yuuri had just been on his way back to Japan. So… why was he lying in bed? He should’ve been waking up in a bond or fountain by now. Yuuri shook his head. There wasn’t really time to think about that. After all, it was entirely possible that he had passed out and Murata had carried him back home and to his room.
The only thing was that this wasn’t his room. Yuuri quickly got out of bed scrambled around the room, trying to figure out whose room he was in. That was when he heard a voice calling to him, saying that he was going to be late if he didn’t hurry up. Brushing aside the fact that the voice he heard didn’t exactly sound like his own mother’s voice, Yuuri ran down the stairs and was pushed out of the door before he could ask any questions.
After that, his morning had only gotten stranger. Suddenly he was told that he was a pokémon trainer and was being pointed in the direction of Route 29 so he could start his journey as soon as possible.
Once all of the preparations had been made and he was left alone with just his pokémon, Yuuri sat down on the ground so he was level with his starter, a Horsea. He fixed the pokémon with a level gaze. “Do you know what’s going on?”
The Horsea only stared back at him in confusion, which made Yuuri sigh before giving the animal a soft smile. “I guess you don’t. Well, that means we’ll just be in this together, right?”
Yuuri looked around at his surroundings, hoping that there might be a fountain, a river or even a pond nearby. There wasn’t anything. He let out another sigh. It’d be a while before he could have any chance of leaving wherever he was now. He put his hand on his chin thoughtfully. “I think if we can just find some water, I’ll be able to go back home.” Yuuri glanced at the Horsea, who looked up at him expectantly and that caused him to smile again. “Ah, of course I’ll be taking you with me.” Even though he had just met the pokémon, he already felt attached to him. As long as he and the animal stuck together, Yuuri knew they’d be all right.
