Being an adult was hard. Sure, the perks of it were nice. Travis liked having his own flat and the privacy that came along with it. He liked that he could have stacked boxes of comic books in his office and body could say a word about it. It was nice to have a giant flat screen television in his living room with every game system available taking ( Read more... )

Ginny was glad she had managed to make it out of practice when she had. If they had run any more drills she would have been late to meet Travis. She checked to make sure her scarf was on and she had all the essentials, such as her wallet and wand, stuffed into her bag. Then with a pop she left the locker room only to pop up a minute later in a back alley.

She strolled out of the alley and headed off to meet Travis. She spotted him a few blocks down leaning against the side of the restaurant they were going to be eating at. She picked up her pace.

"You know that's bad for you right?" she asked with a frown when she reached him.

Travis had only made it half way through his cigarette when he heard Ginny's familiar voice. He turned to give her a sheepish smile, dropping the stog instantly.

"Caught red handed."

After he had properly stomped it out, Travis moved in for a hug. He turned his face properly so Ginny wouldn't get a wif of that tobacco smell. It was good see her, even if she still smelled like the locker room she'd just come from.

"I'm not even worth the time for a shower anymore?" he teased, fingers playing with the bottom of her hair. Though, it really didn't make much of a difference to him.

Ginny moved in to return Travis's hug. She was grateful that he moved his head so that she wasn't blasted with the smell of tobacco. She really wished he would quit but knew that nothing she did would have any effect. He was as bad as her brothers that way.

Ginny sighed happily into the hug. She hadn't seen Travis much recently, or really anybody other than her team mates. It was like her life had turned in to nothing but quidditch so it was nice to be able to eek out a few hours for some quality friend time.

"You're just lucky I made it here on time. Practice has been running later and later as we move more into the season." She nodded towards the door of the restaurant. "So would you like to go eat or stand around in the cold a bit longer?"

Travis squeezed her once more before pulling back. It had been strange when they first graduated, not seeing Ginny all the time. She had been a vital part of his years at Hogwarts since day one - they had gone from sharing only a common room to exchanging notes and all nighters during finals.

"Let's go in," he laughed, nodding towards the door. "You must be starving after all the work they make you do on the field."

Ginny snorted. "I'm not sure I even know how to have a wild weekend any more." She took another swig of her drink before the last comment registered in her brain. She slammed her glass back down on the table.

"Wait! You have a wild weekend?! What happened?! Tell me everything!" Ginny's excitement was obvious. After all, she might as well live vicariously through Travis. It wasn't as if she was getting up to anything crazy.

Travis couldn't help laughing at Ginny's reaction. It was true that a weekend for him usually consisted of drinking over at Jake's bar or letting the time pass in his flat with video games. That was, of course, the weekends he wasn't sailing.

"I picked up a girl in a bar," he started, that sheepish looking back on his face. "And I sort of brought her to my cottage in Australia where we both stayed for three days."

Ginny gasped at him. He did what?! It was so like and unlike Travis all at once. "You realize that is not nearly enough detail to satisfy me. I am living vicariously through you right now. I want to know everything!"

Ginny tossed back the remainder of her drink right as their appetizer made it to the table. Travis's forethought in ordering it was a stroke of genius as Ginny could already feel the drink going to her head.

They quickly placed their dinner order, and a second round of drinks, before Ginny turned on him for the details she wanted. "Come on Travis. Spill the beans!"

This was new territory. It wasn't that Travis wasn't used to picking up woman, it just wasn't his game. At least, it wasn't the same in comparison to Jake. Maybe a part of him still held onto the idea of getting back together with Natalie.

"Okay, okay. Well, it started Friday went I took a half day. I went to this bar on the other side of town and ran into Astoria Greengrass," he paused. At first he hadn't recognized Astoria but as the day went on it, it clicked. They were in the same year at Hogwarts after all and she was her year's very own Slytherin Princess.

"After a few drinks, I told her about my boat and she didn't seem to believe me. So I had to show her, didn't I?"

Ginny shook her head at him. "How you still don't understand quidditch is beyond me. I have tried to teach you so many times." She followed his lead and took a sip of her drink. "And don't worry. I will have two tickets for the boxes waiting at will call for you because that is the kind of amazing friend I am."

Their food arrived. It looked and smelled wonderful. Even after so many potato skins Ginny's stomach still rumbled at the sight of it. Ginny grabbed the vinegar and put a liberal amount on her food before diving in.

"So, is Astoria a quidditch fan? Or did you love weekend not include a lot of talking?"

"I will understand quidditch when you understand how to turn on my playstation," he countered, remembering the last time he had tried to talk her through it. It was a miracle the system was still functioning.

The food smelled amazing. Travis picked up his burger and sunk his teeth into it. Finally, some real food in his system.

"There was talking....but sports never worked its way into the conversation."

Travis's playstation was the bane of Ginny's existence when she was at his place. It taunted her with it's seeming simplicity while secretly being the most complicated thing on this great earth. "Your playstation is the obvious work of the devil. Why else would it be so hard to operate?"

She took a bite of her food. It tasted amazing! The decision to put off her normal diet for a night of drinks and fried food had been the best decision Ginny had made in so long.

"One day, you will understand it...when hell freezes over and I learn the rules of your complicated game," he teased, picking at his chips.

Travis always judged a restaurant by the quality of their chips. He could honestly say that these were some of the best he'd ever had. And it wasn't just his stomach talking.

"If you don't slow down, you'll choke Ginny. Your brothers aren't here to steal your helping so you can chew a few times between bites."

Ginny laughed at his excitement. "Don't get too set on ice cream. You only get some if she says no."

Ginny popped another chip into her mouth. "Which I am sure she won't do. I mean who could say no to that face?"

"Well, if she says yes I think I should be rewarded with ice cream," Travis suggested, nodding slowly hoping she'd follow along. He gave her his best puppy dog look.

"If she can't say no, how can you, Gins?"

Ginny tried to keep a straight face but quickly cracked up at his puppy dog pout. "Oh sod off!" she told him and threw a chip at his face.

Travis could be ridiculous with a hint of dramatic. It was one of the things Ginny liked about him. "I will only bring you ice cream for a no. You have to buy your own bloody ice cream if she says yes."

"Oh, come on! How can you resist?" Travis gave her a big smile, eyes going even wider. If he stared at her long enough, maybe the guy would still get ice cream.

Yes, Travis could be dramatic. Maybe sometimes slightly self absorbed. Often a little dense too. But those where some of his best qualities (among being a gentleman, care, and loyal to his friends).
