Goodbye Aveline

Jan 30, 2007 23:39

I didn't know Aveline as well as many of the people who have been posting about her. I remember that she had quite a presence at some conventions a few years back, but hasn't really been around so much at the last few I've been to. I hope I knew her well enough that she wouldn't mind me considering her my friend.

There was a minor emergency to take care of after I got home this evening, after Arc. After that, I've scoured Livejournal to find out what happened to Aveline. It was important to me to know, because... No, forget the because. The because is trying to take me away from the point. Thanks for letting me know what happened, kitling. It helps. I wish I could somehow return the favour, and help those of you who were so much closer to Aveline than I. Some friends of mine, whom I know better than I knew Aveline herself, were looking devastated by the loss, and I had no words for them. (And if I seem more concerned for the living than for Aveline herself, well, I think Aveline herself would have been.)

I'll remember her best due to her game A Night in Paris, not just because I played it, but because I was running a game at Arc 2001, when she was running that one, and we had adjacent tables at rego. Or at least nearby tables, with a writer or two commonly missing from their tables between us. I don't remember, and it doesn't matter. What matters is, we tended to chat in the rego hall because of the proximity, just for those few days.

Goodbye, Aveline. I wish you could have stuck around long enough for me to get to know you better.
