A while back, the glass turntable plate in my microwave got broken, and some time before that the light inside it stopped working (but I hadn't even noticed). Random complained more recently, asking for at least the plate to be replaced and saying that a replacement would only cost $60. I refused, on the basis that Woolies had microwaves for $90,

If you happen to find a plate for a few dollars, you can buy it and then claim the microwave for yourself. Then you'll have a very cheap microwave. (As long as you do it quickly.)
But I lack the time for op-shopping, so the cost to make the attempt would have been very high for me. I generally reckon my allocatable time as being worth at least $20 per hour, so three and a half hours of shopping would be my absolute limit to save $70 on a microwave.
