I'd recommend Merccedes Lackey, if you aren't familiar with her. She has a lot of fantasy books and some that are more along the crime-solving thing with a kind of fantasy bend. =)
- Once Were Cops (came out a few months ago, its written in a very different style) - Rose Labyrinth (not sure if its out yet though, but I really liked it, yay for advance copies XD) - The Dark Tower (French History? With a fascinating twist!) - My Best Friends Girl (its kind of cute and a little mushy, but still a really good gripping read...I think its out now, I did the advance copy thing again XD)
