The blade easily slices through her skin, exactly between her breasts, blood spurting out the wound.
At that moment, Fai feels shock and terror and anger and dread. And he feels himself shaking against the black substance that binds him and the others. He wants to do something (run away, or take Sakura’s body in his arms, or rewind time, or just forget) but he is held in place.
He had never been able to do anything. Valeria or Celes or Tokyo or Infinity, he had never been able to do anything. Realistically, Nihon shouldn’t have been different.
“Don’t worry. My life won’t disappear.”
You lied to me, Sakura-chan.
Syaoran’s scream suddenly echoes in his ears, but Fai’s eyes are locked on Sakura. Cherry blossoms suddenly appear at where the clone’s sword had stabbed her. It takes a second for Fai to realize that Sakura herself is becoming the flowers.
Her head slowly turned toward Syaoran.
“Your Sakura… isn’t me.”
It's true. She is not Syaoran’s Sakura.
But she is certainly Fai’s.
“Because I am… the same.”
Fai can’t look anymore. He looks instead to the ground, memories of a cruel man’s voice flashing through his ears.
But Sakura’s voice carries over his memory.
“…You must have known too, right? That I’m not the real Sakura. That’s why…you…said at that time, ‘What treasures *that* Sakura the most is not my heart. It’s you.’”
She may not have been the real Sakura, but she was still Sakura. Fai never knew the real one. The only one he had ever known was the warm and beautiful clone, who had smiled at him and wrapped his arms around his neck, promising that the future could be changed.
“Your Sakura is…waiting!”
A wind blows by forcefully. Fai looks back up to see most of Sakura’s soul dissolving into the flowers bearing her name. Such beautiful flowers.
It’s happening much too fast. There isn’t enough time. Fai has to tell Sakura he is sorry, that he didn’t care that she was a clone, that she was the most beautiful when she smiled, that he valued himself now more than he ever had, maybe not the most of everything, but he had changed because of her, and had always wished for someone as bright and lovely as her to have a happy ending…
“So please, from now on…”
A flurry of flower petals as she falls into the arms of the other clone.
“…for the sake of your true most important person…be free…”
Those words are not been meant for him, but he takes them as that anyway.
Be free?
Are you asking me to be free for you, Sakura-chan?
The last time she had looked at him was with remorse, whispering a strained apology. He would never look into those eyes again. He should have been the one apologizing at that moment.
“Be free.”
Two sets of clone eyes are locked. Sakura’s mouth is moving, but Fai can’t hear her words. They aren’t for him.
She’s already given him the words she’s needed to.
“No matter what magic you can or can’t use…Fai-san is Fai-san.”
“Then… promise me that from now on, the thing you value most will be yourself.”
“Please don’t forget. From now on, the future can be changed.”
He closes his eyes. The breeze is carrying him like the flower petals. The blackness around him doesn’t matter, or the fact that she is whispering in another’s ear.
I’m so sorry, Sakura-chan. Syaoran-kun and Kuro-sama and Mokona and Sakura-chan, I’m sorry. But I’m happy that we were together.
I will make sure that the real Sakura-chan has a happy ending…because if she’s anything at all like you, she deserves it.
He opens his eyes, aware of how incredible dry they feel and watches as Sakura leaves. She disappears, with nothing but flower petals in her place.
He feels empty. But he feels free. The wind is gliding around him, silencing the screams he can’t make and wiping away the tears he can’t cry. He is weightless and clean and free.
But his chains were not the only things broken by the princess of the sun.

A/N: The story behind the fic is probably longer than the fic itself.
I originally tried to write something that took place at the end of 181. Didn't work out. Posted my other Fai/Sakura fic here, got lovely reveiws, and
useratthla inspired me to try again. Again, didn't work. Tried for something during the end of 182, wasn't working. Tried to expand with some flashback thing, which out of nowhere got me this idea. Obviously worked out.
All quotes were taken from the translations at onemanga.com. I did a bit of tweaking on some to make more grammatical sense because...it was annoying me otherwise.
Also-I realized that I hadn't made my previous fic here friends only, so I went back at changed that. Sorry, mods! ^_^'
