“Look, mommy, it’s naining!” Alexandra shouts, pointing a chubby, tan finger towards the window. Santana turns her head slightly and directs her attention to one of the spontaneous summer rainstorm that seem to plague Ohio all season. She then looks at her three-year-old daughter and laughs at the cuteness of her mispronunciation.

“Yes, Lexie, it’s raining,” she says, emphasizing the correct pronunciation. Lexie nods enthusiastically with a wide grin, showing off her small, white teeth. She has Santana’s smile, which already has Finn worried for the future.

“It’s naining,” she parrots, clearly unable to say the word correctly. Santana rolls her eyes and continues chopping a green apple for her daughter’s afternoon snack.

Lexie’s sitting on one of the stools in front of the island across from the window and she’s resting her chin atop her little, dimpled hands. The wistful expression on her face is all Finn. She seems to have all of his most adorable facial expressions when she wants to be cute and Santana’s bitchiest ones when she wants to be bratty.

“You like the rain, Lexie?” Santana asks placing the plate with the apples in front of the little girl.

“Yes,” she nods, taking a wedge between her fingers, “I like it a lot.” She bites into it and doesn’t even grimace in the slightest bit. It amazes her parents how much she loves sour foods, considering neither of them do.

Santana’s about to encourage Lexie to elaborate (Rachel’s always saying it’s never too early to help your children widen their vocabulary and considering her and Sam’s five-year-old son is a child prodigy, Santana trusts her advice), but stops when Finn bounds into the room, literally hopping around excitedly. He has his raincoat on and in his hands are Lexie’s purple raincoat and matching rain boots Carole bought her.

“Let’s go play in the rain!” He says, grinning goofily. Their daughter giggles and claps before dropping her apple and shimmying down the stool. Santana raises an eyebrow as Lexie wraps her arms around Finn’s legs, clearly on the outside of this joke.

“Um, I don’t know if you realize this, but playing in the rain leads to sickness,” Santana finally says after he’s already got both of Lexie’s boots on. He looks up at her with his brows furrowed.

“Babe, it’s a summer storm. She won’t get sick, I promise,” he says confidently as he guides Lexie’s arm into the sleeves are her coat. Santana’s face softens at the sheer adorableness exuding from her daughter.

“Mommy, I want to play outside!” Lexie squeals as she runs to the door and places her hand on the knob. “Please?”

Santana sighs and rolls her eyes before finally consenting, “Fine, even though I know this is a terrible idea,” she turns to Finn, “When you two get sick, like I know you will, I won’t be taking care of you. You’ll be on your own.”

“Just don’t say I told you so,” he says, winking before chasing after their three-year-old who has already disappeared through the backdoor.

When they both come down with a cold, Santana gives her husband a look that silently screams ‘I told you so' and spoon-feeds them both chicken noodle soup.

She really would have stuck by her promise if both of her children didn’t look so pathetically cute while sick. The bigger one even more so than the smaller one.
