Character Information
Name: Yvette (Yuffie) Kisaragi
Age: 20
Personality: Yuffie is pretentious, she's cocky and she's arrogant. She makes it known how hard she's worked and how much she does in a team; really is that such a bad thing? It's not everyday someone is a master thief, the greatest Ninja ever and one of the Heroes of the Planet all wrapped up in a hot package! You can't blame her for being arrogant, you know you're jealous.
Under the arrogant exterior is someone who has a strong sense of pride and justice. Though she claims to have nothing to do with traditions, Yuffie left Wutai to help preserve it and bring it back to its former glory. She was under the impression that materia trading could get her somewhere but that didn't go where she intended. Instead she found herself embroiled in the battle to save the Planet.
Following Cloud, Yuffie felt a sense of pride that was similar to her own brand of nationalism. Part of her is amazed still at how they cling to each other and can't manage to let go, but she's always been the sort who wanted a strong family attachment. For Yuffie, AVALANCHE was her new family. She's viciously loyal to them, even if she teases them all at different levels and has annoying nicknames for every single one of them.
If anyone else were to call them a name, however, they'd have hell on their hands. Yuffie doesn't stand for anyone badmouthing her loved ones. She's stupidly brave and will defend the honor of her team to the death. To be honest, Yuffie's a softie at heart and tries to mask this with big talk, jokes, and anything to hide her very empathetic side. Yuffie doesn't know how to talk to people without feeling strange. If she sits and thinks too long on what Cloud or Vincent went through, it never fails to make her angry.
When Yuffie is really angry, she cries. It's something she can't stand about herself, but it's the best indicator as to when something's honestly bothering her. All the times she yells or stomps her feet is mostly an act, see she's a princess and will use that to her advantage. Nose in the air and demanding and dismissive, Yuffie can play the bitchy princess on cue.
Despite all of this, she's calmed a bit since she turned twenty. It isn't that she feels older but she has stopped feeling as though she has so much to prove. A lot of her puffing herself up has become an inside joke within AVALANCHE and she's more than happy to put on a show for them to earn a smile.
Even though she's not a traditionalist in any sense, Yuffie does plan on getting married. Or at least having kids. Working with Tifa at the bar has given her an understanding of little people and she honestly loves being around them.
Strengths: For all her talk, she can mostly back it up. Yuffie's an extremely gifted Ninja and thief. She's fluent in a few languages and is rather highly educated because she's a princess.
She uses a variety of giant throwing stars, her favorite being called Conformer. The weapon is used like a sharp boomerang. She's capable of throwing it and catching it while she herself is in motion and is never in one place for long in a fight. Yuffie is fast as lightning and able to move extremely quietly.
Weaknesses: Yuffie sometimes forgets that she is very small and not, in fact, wonder woman. She tends to take on too much and get herself hurt from being too ambitious or eager to help her team. She also tends to run her mouth a lot. Thankfully for Yuffie she typically has a member of AVALANCHE backing her up, even when she bites off more than she can chew.
She's also somewhat difficult to talk to. Yuffie's afraid to look too much like a typical princess; as such she doesn't try to get touchy or feely. She utterly fails at most human interactions, for example, she'll tease a boy if she likes him instead of standing up and saying she wants to spend more time with him.
Yuffie also does not enjoy riding on anything that isn't a chocobo for long distances and would, if given the choice, walk everywhere. She cannot be in the air for more than ten minutes without getting sick to her stomach and most boats are right out. She's taken to puking on random things of Cid's in retaliation for airship travel.
History: Yuffie was very young when her mother died. Her father was stricken with grief and for a long while he was quite distant to her. While she was growing up, Yuffie would hear stories about what a warrior her mother was, how strong her father was and how proud her nation was. These fairytales were mocked, in her eyes, by the tourist business and the "attraction" that ShinRa had made out of her homeland. The older she got, the worse the contrast felt to Yuffie and she began to detest the stories.
They made her sad and she didn't think that any traditions should be upheld if all they were going to be used for would be to entertain foreigners. She saw that the reactors were powerful and Yuffie knew that materia came from the reactors. As a result, Yuffie felt that one of the ways to gain power would be to gather as much materia as possible.
This lead to her long standing love affair with materia. Yuffie loves to touch it, feel it, use it, collect it, and she doesn't exactly care to sell it anymore. There's something about the lovely balls of crystally magic that just entices her. She'd rather have a materia pendant than a wedding band from her future husband.
When Yuffie met Cloud Strife, her whole life changed. At first she thought she'd fallen in love with the dashing knight on a gold chocobo. That, of course, was silly and she came to realize that it was more of what Cloud stood for that she loved. He was being a hero when no one else could or would.
It only made sense for her to get in on the rebuilding of the planet. Afterall, part of her fight had ended up ruining it. And it was only right to fix what you broke. This also helped her get the word out about Wutai, start some legends and figure out some more talks. She didn't intend to be a representative for Wutai, but it seemed to end up that way.
Every member of AVALANCHE left a strong impression on her in her youth and she can't really let go of the work to protect the planet. If they don't, Yuffie figures, who will? It's hard work, sometimes ungrateful, but it's worth it. She doesn't quite understand why.
Roleplaying Samples
First person:
Oh Leviathan's sake, I can't believe I still haven't talked to him. I've known this guy for… a long ass time, as Cid would say. I should be able to actually talk to him and tell him, you now, "hey want to hang out just us".
Instead I end up picking a fight because it's much easier. Nanaki would laugh at me, but at least he'd let me cuddle with him afterwards. As long as he doesn't have fleas. Not like any of us are good at this human interaction BS. Smoke Stack's way of showing love is full of curses and demands for tea, Vince still can't break down and tell anyone how he felt. Not that Vinny doesn't have his reasons. Spikey is madly in love with his bike, I think…
Why is it so hard to be normal?
Third person:
Yuffie managed to find time to get her hair cut, finally. The shoulder length thing wasn't working right at all. Instead of lying like Tifa's did it flipped and whipped and looked altogether ungodly. Like she was Vincent's kid or something and that was not what she was going for. A little retail therapy never hurt either. Unlike the rest of her fashion halted team, Yuffie managed to update her wardrobe quite often.
She pulled out her PHS and flipped through the datebook. "Hrm… Teef…" the bartender's birthday was coming up. Yuffie would have to "accidentally" buy something far too big for her again. Not like she could be seen actually being nice. The phone in her hand rang then and she nearly jumped, not expecting the call.
"This is the Great Ninja Yuffie, at your service." On the other line the voice could not be heard, but Yuffie frowned. "Do I have to?" She staggered and held the phone away from her ear. "Listen you, don't talk to me like that you old smoke stack! I know damn well when Tifa's birthday is! And I do NOT usually get airsick; you're just a piss poor driver!" She smiled as though she'd won something "maybe I WILL just ride with Reno, he's MUCH better to look at, such a nice ass."
Cid's voice could be heard from the other line and this earned a laugh from Yuffie. "GAWD, Ciddy, no. Alright? Yeah, come by and get me. I suppose I can't blame you for just NEEDING to bask in my glory." She hung up without a goodbye and could feel the smile tugging at her cheeks.
She'd missed them all and this was as good an excuse to see everyone. He stomach lurched, however, at the idea of the long airship ride between Wutai and Midgar. It wasn't much to look forward to in the short term. Puking on Cid's shoes only eased so much of the pain.
