1.  Is there a God?
Yes. At this point in scientific discovery, it's pretty gutsy to say that there isn't a God, though many still hold to that view.

Not lecturey at all. You make an excellent point and I think one of the reasons I hesitate to take a stand on the death penalty is because we haven't experienced it here in Canada (or at least that I can think of) and so I haven't really been confronted with it. I do think your point is extremely valid and as I begin my research and contemplation of this issue, I will keep your comments in mind.
I don't know why I don't just say "the death penalty is wrong because it takes the life of a human" but there's something in me that keeps saying, "Isn't there something in the Bible that speaks on the death penalty - specifically, the God given right for governments to punish those who murder?" Anyway, I don't know much more other than that niggling thought and that is why I am going to research it BEFORE I jump out on a limb and blast views that I am entirely unknowledgeable.
So that's MY shpeil. :) And I will update when I have uncovered more.
Thanks for keeping us Christians in line!
