A bit o'updates...

-Starting in June, GC will update twice a week. This is to insure weekly updates while I'm moving, and build some buffer. Things will go back to normal in July. (Also, new page is up.)

-The FKMT anthology will see a release towards the end of summer. Again, I apologize about this. Because of the move and my *sarcasm*AMAZING*sarcasm* organizational

Hey, I've been critiqued by the guy who wrote that! (lol namedropping) He's a cool guy, maybe you should let him know his techniques are working.

And OMG I love love love Paul Pope; his way with ink is amazing! Also, I don't think I told you this, but I love the GC redraws as well.

I feel so lame, I've heard the name for years, faintly knew of some of his work, but I run into his blog the other day and totally blown away. Inspiring stuff! I think Battle Boy will be the rare book I'll buy this year, ha ha...

Oh, cool that you've talked with him. XD I'm gonna give the schedule thing a week or so, if I can stick with it, I'll definitely write and thank him!

I don't remember if Manga Studio has decent "layers" or not, but if so (or if you were to run over to Photoshop), you could do the main (simple) linework on one layer, and do the shading on another layer, so if the crosshatching looks like ass that day it's easier to erase or switch to dots or whatever you want to try.

I get good textures from 005 ink pens when inking on real paper, but it depends on what look you want at the moment. The smaller pens are better for when you're trying for more photorealistic, pencil-ly or gritty, since you can get more gradient levels out of them.

If you can't figure out how to do the star bursts on the PC (I still have issues with doing linework on the computer), you could always draw one on paper, scan it, and save it and use it over and over. Just rotate/transform it and inverse parts of it for shadow, etc. You can buy books with things like that already done for you if you're lazy.

I'm sure you already knew all that, though. >.>

Eh hee, yup, I know/do all that. Thank you, though. (´；ω；｀) I'd like to learn how to balance pure black and white more, depend less on crosshatch and tone.

I like playing with different pen sizes too! I do notice a bit more of a detailed look with more older pages, but I fell in love with the thick brush-like size while doing that superhero spoof. I adjusted it a bit more for the pages after that--but I keep wanting to go thicker, lol. I worry about the main lineart lines becoming too thick.

MS has different types of layers, but the common raster layer is just like PS. I work with a lot of layers--separated by: lineart, character details, hair, SFX, special effects, bg linework, and bg details. Good times, bouncing around.

MS also has a nifty burst and speed line tool, it can create all sorts of effects and you can adjust it to bend completely to your liking. It's easy to go back and change it if you want as well. (・∀・)ノ

Oh, one little thing I wanted to bring up -- horses. You might want to do some studies of equine anatomy. Your horses are mostly okay, but they could be better, especially the legs. I need to do this too, come to think of it.

Eep, yup, I'm pretty weak at them right now. orz I've been finding different sources online besides my only HTD Horse book. I really like this site, explaining a horse's balance and movements.

I never noticed how bad I freaked out before. :D;;; Staying away from the PC has definitely let me become less anxious about everything, even after this short of time. I'm impressed! (Then, suddenly I'm embarrassed of myself, lol) XD

When I went on hiatus I suddenly had an incredible amount of time. The internet is still the devil, but I save a heckuva lot of extra time just not going to comic forums anymore.
