While I was internetless for about a month or so, I fell in love with a few things! And when I got the internet back, I fell in love with a few more things!

Art & Story podcast - This was made for me! They talk about various aspects of comicking, be it inking, writing, what we worry about, and the latest episode, how to deal with procrastination and burnout. They are great to listen to while working because I just get SO EXCITED as they go back and forth and it keeps me busy. I've been lurking at their live show, Art & Story Alive! which happens every Monday. :D Really fun to hear them chat with others, and reading the other online folks with their own thoughts.

Yen Plus - I bought it at first because I am an anthology nerd, and I want to support any paper anthologies here. Now I have to get it each month because I'm enjoying Maximum Ride and Night School. My guilty pleasures are Pig Bride and One Fine Day, so cute. <3 I think they're doing anthologies right, with original content not found anywhere else and also having Japanese series in it too. But I don't really care for any of the Japanese ones, they aren't my cup of tea--but they share a certain art style that's cool and appealing. The upcoming Black Butler fits into it as well. They are very smart calling for professional manga-inspired creators to submit to them, already publishing Queenie Chan. (Ungh, delicious inks in her short story)It's a clever anthology but with a stupid price point. Once I have a permanent house I'll be sure to subscribe to save money. orz

Ikki Online - I'm getting tired of a lot of shonen (and especially shoujo) manga--I think reading Fukumoto's works changed my tastes tremendously. I was so giddy when Viz announced sigikki.com, I love their signature line. I loved their Pulp line from 10+ years ago. By now they've begun all their series, so check them out! I wish there were more online magazines like this--Viz's reader is the BEST, even beating out a lot of Japanese ones. Only thing that sucks it seems to be region-locked. Japan doesn't region-lock their online readers, (Thank god) I wish more people could be exposed to the Ikki titles without having to do it somewhere else.

My current favorites are Dorohedoro, (Unnngh it better get a print version, I don't want to wait forever to just have to import it) House of the Five Leaves, (I love the premise and the storytelling/style/inking/art, but I wish the "fight scene" wasn't so lame-o) Kingyo Used Books, (Is this a series to remind all of us how AWESOME comics are? <3) and I'm hoping good things for Afterschool Charisma, but I have a feeling history nerds will rage too much on it.

Hulu & Crunchyroll - I have no television cable nor the digital converter box so these sites have been a godsend. I get my Daily Show/Colbert and I've been watching a bunch of junk shows too. (lol) I much prefer Hulu's player, it doesn't slow down my PC at all and the commercials are not annoying. (Well, the Axe ones make me want to punch the monitor sometimes) I've been at Crunchyroll solely for Ristorante Paradiso, and uh, just because. :3c It's based on the book written by Natsume Ono (House of the Five Leaves) WHICH is being published by Viz later this year! I'm disappointed it's inked in the "traditional Josei style" and not like in her other work. And again, I wish these weren't region-locked.

Okay, that's enough nerd-rambling. GC should update later today!
