Those of us living in the midwest sometimes forget just how damaging the forestry industry can be. I have seen the forests of California and was struck by the beauty of them. I find it hard to understand the callousness with which wall street investors can just destroy them. But then I stop and think about it and remember the people who are behind this have no real care for life human or otherwise. To them it's about some financial bull shit gamesmanship. Trying to make the money to pay off the last scam they ran on groups of unsuspecting people. Using the resourses that belong to the earth and not just a single small group of humans to do it.

In the late 18th and early 19th century, our state was almost totally cleared as trees were cut to make charcoal for the local steel industry. Once the use of coal became possible and richer ore and coal were found further west, the forests grew back. I regret that we don't have any of the virgin old growth here.
