So apparently Kryptonite (the bicycle lock company) is in the shit-hole big time. Well, actually, any company that makes a lock that takes a cylindrical key is, but Kryptonite in particular because they're the biggest. Any round keyed lock can be opened with the body of a pen. With most Krypto's, it's your everyday standard BIC. Other size keys ( Read more... )

This also applies to Kensington who makes locks for laptops. They offer up to $1500 I believe if your laptop is stolen using one of their locks. The catch is, though, that the lock has to be damaged. If someone just opens it, then you'd better smash the hell outta that lock before you try to claim your money.

how interesting! I think the same thing is supposed to apply to the U-locks, but the liability here is, I think, a good deal greater. Maybe not, I dunno. What I DO know is that if they don't do something pretty serious to save this situation, or they do the wrong thing, they's outta business most likely.

*MOST LIKELY* they have an underwriter who assumes all the risk on the insurance policy and the company pays a fee for that. Whether or not the underwriter will stand behind those claims remains to be seen, but the company probably won't be liable. It could be a public relations nightmare though if they don't step up and make something happen.

Remember those "200 for free" Hi-Val CDRs? The company who did the rebates went bankrupt standing behind that and that's why a lot of people never got their refunds.

where/what is plantix fest? I've personally built probably around 15 or more in Chicago, and although I'm probably the most active builder in Chicago, there are like 5-10 other people who also can/do/have welded tallbikes just here in Chi-town.

...It's hard to believe that that's all there is to it. If only I would have heard about this a few days ago before I ordered the thing. I just got it today and I like it; it seems ok.... I mean, damn.

I did it last night for the first time. I know, everybody's kinda fucked here. They're supposed to be the best around. I'll post when I find out what Kryptonite's gonna do. Also check the bikepirates community for more info.
