Name: Emil Castagnier
Age: 16
Height: 169 cm (5'6")
Weight: 60 kg (132 lbs)
Hair: Blond, medium length, and flippy at the tips.
Eyes: Bright green when he's "normal" Emil and red when he's in Ratatosk Mode.
Medical Info: Nothing exciting.
Physical Traits: Average teenage boy. He's leanly muscled from his adventures, and somewhat tanned. [SPOILERS] There's a birthmark shaped like a star below his collarbone.
Abilities: See
here for his Artes.
Aside from that, Emil's most important skill is his ability to forge pacts with monsters. Basically, this means that after he defeats a monster in battle, assuming certain requirements are met (like the elemental grid being 4/5ths the current main element -- don't worry about this, it's all battle system mechanics), he has the option of recruiting the monster into his party. It's sort of like Pokémon! Right down to the fact that at certain levels, the monsters have the option of evolving. I'm thinking Emil will probably have four (the number of monsters you can carry in your party) monsters with him in camp, though I'm still deciding which of my usual team to bring with him, haha.
Finally, [HUGE SPOILERS] he has power over the flow of mana. [/SPOILERS]
Notes for the Psychics: Okay, let's do this in two parts!
Regular (Green-Eyed) Emil: While by the end of the game Emil has greatly gained in self-confidence, he's still fairly shy and stuttery. He second-guesses himself a lot, and is easily frightened. You could probably pick up on this even without psychic powers, though. His thoughts tend to gravitate towards Marta, taking care of his monsters, and cooking.
Ratatosk Mode Emil: Ratatosk Mode Emil has also changed quite a bit by the end of the game. He's still rude and his temper flares easily, but he's less likely to kill someone just for looking at Marta the wrong way (he'll just threaten the hell out of them instead). While he still thinks Emil is sort of a pushover, the two personalities have made their peace.
Important to note is the fact that neither personality is artificial in either way. They are the same person, and at times, can sort of... merge into one personality. This is complicated! I have a
whole post [MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE WHOLE GAME! DANGER WILL ROBINSON, DANGER!] on this!
Aside from the personalities thing... okay, this whole section is FULL OF HUGE GIGANTIC SPOILERS THAT YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON PLAYING THE GAME. GOT IT? GOOD. Emil is actually the summon spirit Ratatosk in human form. What does this mean? Well, he's a being tied directly to the mana of his world. Specifically, he used to be the spirit of the Great Kharlan tree before it died. These days, he's the Lord of Monsters and the guy who guards the gate to the Demonic Realm, Niflheim. In other words, he is a pretty important figure! The Summon Spirits aren't gods or anything like that, but they're powerful beings responsible for the state of the world, and Ratatosk has the power to wipe out humanity if he feels like it. YEAH.
What's Okay To Mention Around Him: Pretty much anything!
Can I shapeshift/spit at/step on/etc?: Sure. Regular Emil will give you puppy dog eyes, and Ratatosk Mode will step on you right back.
Hugging/Kissing/Other non-violent physical contact: OF COURSE. I live to make this boy's life uncomfortable.
Maim/Murder/Death: If I've thrown him into a fight, I've accepted the fact that he might get injured. However, if the fight progresses to serious injury, I'd like to be in contact with you beforehand. Death is a no except in special circumstances.
Cooking: Actually, both Emil's personalities are great cooks. Regular Emil cooks like a Japanese housewife, which is to say he makes apple rabbits and cutesy designs on his food. Ratatosk Mode Emil's food looks inedible, but tastes just as good. FUSHIGI MYSTERY.
