Jake picked his daughter up as he began to weave his way through a group of older men and their wives, who were mingling before the wedding. He heard bits of basketball discussion, blended in with the latest gossip in Tree Hill from the women. As he reached an open area of grass, he set Jenny down on the grass and handed her one of her favorite ( Read more... )

Chris called the number the second time hoping this time he would get through beside a voice mail. Then all of a sudden he heard a "Hello?"

With a confident voice he replied "Hi, I tried calling earlier about being your roommate. I just need a place to crash in Tree Hill."

The voice on the other line cleared his voice and started to speak up, but then Chris cut him off, and like all men in the entertainment business he brought up the issue of money. "I'll pay $500 more than your original asking price, I can pay for it. If you need more money I got it. I really need a place to stay."

"You know that my daughter lives with me, as well, right?" Jake asked. To be honest, it was the first thing that came to mind. The stranger on the other end of the line had just offered him $500 above the asking price, and he didn't even know how to react. There just had to be some sort of mistake. Or maybe a catch to this whole deal.

"Yeah, like I said, I just need a place to crash for a little while," Jake heard the voice respond, bringing him out of his thoughts.

"Well, if you want, you can stop by tonight--or tomorrow--whatever suits your schedule," Jake offered. He glanced over at Jenny, who had been in a fit of laughter from the faces that Brooke and Peyton had been making in order to entertain her. Then, a thought struck his mind. "By the way, what's your name?"

Chris started to feel relief, he thought he may actually be able to stay somewhere. It seemed like everyone in town knew that he put Haley and Nathan's relationship on the rocks. They all turned him down telling him to go somewhere else beside Tree Hill, they all seemed to forget he used to live there.

Although he tried his best not to come across cocky, it was just like his mouth tooked over. "I'm the one and only Chris Keller. And you're probably wondering why a guy like me would offer $500 more dollars? Well since we've established my name, go on ahead and ask me your next question."

Chris Keller? Why does that sound so familiar? Jake thought. He searched his mind for any connections to the name, but wasn't able to figure it out. He began to fiddle with his tie as the sun grew warmer on his black suit.

"Look, how about we just go through this interview process later?" Jake asked, somewhat irritated by Chris' tone.

"Keller's available for a limited time only," he heard the egotistical voice reply. Jake furrowed his brow. Did he just refer to himself in the third person?

"Um, how about 7:00 tonight?"
