Peyton had heard some enter the library and covered her mouth with her hand, trying to force herself to stop crying. She couldn't turn to see if it was the shooter, it had practically killed her leg just getting into the library. She had tried moving agin...tried to get out of there, but she couldn't even come close to walking.

So chocking back her tearsm she held her breath and prayed that they wouldn't find her. The muffled footsteps grew closer and Peyton turned her head in time to see Lucas raise a bat toward her.

She let out a low scream and turned her head away, before she heard the bat fall the the floor with a clang and Luke was at her side. Feeling him take her hand in his, the tears started falling again. She couldn't help it, she was so scared. She didn't want to let go of him when he went to baracade the door. She was terrified he wouldn't come back.

"Lucas," She choked out as he returned, taking her hand in his. "I lost Brooke..."

"It's okay, Peyton. I saw her outside. She's fine."

He looked to her leg, frowning. He looked up at her, squeezing her hand.

"Can you walk? We need to get you out of here, Peyton."

When she shook her head that she couldn't, he knew something was wrong. She had told him that it was glass that was in her leg. But he knew it had to be more than that. As carefully as he could, he examined her leg, pulling carefully at a piece of glass. It was more than glass and she knew it.

"It's not glass, is it? In my leg."

He frowned as he looked at her.

"No. It's a bullet." He shrugged off his button down shirt, tying it tightly around her leg. "I'm going to get you out of here, Peyton. I promise. You're going to be okay."

Peyton closed her eyes as he told her it was a bullet. Deep down she had known it all along. She had just been to scared, alone in the library, to really admit it to herself. Her fingers were getting cold. And she was fighting to keep her eyes open. She so badly wanted to rewind everything. To be back in her bed with Lucas, napping in the morning sunshine. Everything there was warm and safe. this...this was just....

Peyton snapped out of her reverie as Lucas knotting his shirt around her leg brought on a fresh wave of pain. She tried to smile at him through all the fear and pain, "You're always rescuing me."

He smiled as he looked up at her, making sure the shirt was tied tightly. "Somebody has too." He sat back, leaning against the bookcase. "We have to get out of here, Peyton. We need to get you to the hospital.

(Sorry so short! But this way we can get the story going faster.)
