But more than anything, she missed Brooke. Brooke who had stormed out yesterday with tears in her eyes before Peyton had even gotten a chance to see her. She had picked up the small phone next to her bed to call her best friend three times already. But she was afraid of what Brooke would say to her, and quickly placed the handset back in the cradle.
As she lay there, wondering if there was any coming back from it this time; if Brooke would be able to forgive her again, the door knob turned and she saw Brooke's large brown eyes watching her.
"Brooke!" She couldn't help the smile that spread across her face.

"Brooke, I'm so sorry. I...we didn't mean to hurt you like this again. We weren't intentionally going behind your back. We just weren't sure we wanted anyone to know at first." She took a deep breath and tried to gage the expression on her friend's face. "We were going to tell you." Her earnesty showed in her hazel eyes. "That's what I started to tell you before.....Jimmy." Jimmy had become her code word for what had happened at the school. It was too hard to say 'Shooting'. Tears were filling the corners of her eyes again. God, she really didn't want to start crying again. It felt like she had been doing nothing but crying for two solid days now.
"The last thing we ever wanted to do was hurt you again. You're my best friend Brooke."

When the hug ended, they looked at each others faces, tears running down their eyes. They laughed and wiped their tears. Brooke sat back down un the chair, "So, rough day yesterday."
