An odd mixture of the pain caused by her friends's betrayal and comfort Chris had given her, had lead Brooke Davis once again in to the arms of Chris Keller. She spent the night with him in her apartment but, while he was in deep sleep, her thoughts bounced from Lucas to Peyton and then back again. She thought of all the moments she spent with ( Read more... )

Peyton lay in the quiet hospital room as the early morning sunshine filtered through her window. It was too quiet. She missed all her albums.

But more than anything, she missed Brooke. Brooke who had stormed out yesterday with tears in her eyes before Peyton had even gotten a chance to see her. She had picked up the small phone next to her bed to call her best friend three times already. But she was afraid of what Brooke would say to her, and quickly placed the handset back in the cradle.

As she lay there, wondering if there was any coming back from it this time; if Brooke would be able to forgive her again, the door knob turned and she saw Brooke's large brown eyes watching her.

"Brooke!" She couldn't help the smile that spread across her face.

Brooke walked into the small room. She saw Peyton laying on a hospital bed. She wanted to run and hug Peyton but she wasn't ready for that yet. She questioned if she ever would be ready. She kept her distance while she observed Peyton. Peyton had looked sad and stressed when Brooke first walked in, but now she had a smile, happy that her best friend had come to see her. Brooke didn't know quite what to say ( ... )

Peyton's chest felt tight. She and Brooke had worked so hard the last year and a half to get their friendship back, and now here they were back at square one. With all the hurt and awkwardness. She shifted (albeit, painfully) in the hospital bed so that she was facing Brooke completely.

"Brooke, I'm so sorry. I...we didn't mean to hurt you like this again. We weren't intentionally going behind your back. We just weren't sure we wanted anyone to know at first." She took a deep breath and tried to gage the expression on her friend's face. "We were going to tell you." Her earnesty showed in her hazel eyes. "That's what I started to tell you before.....Jimmy." Jimmy had become her code word for what had happened at the school. It was too hard to say 'Shooting'. Tears were filling the corners of her eyes again. God, she really didn't want to start crying again. It felt like she had been doing nothing but crying for two solid days now.

"The last thing we ever wanted to do was hurt you again. You're my best friend Brooke."

Brooke saw the tears that soon flooded Peyton's eyes. She instinctively grabbed Peyton's hand to calm her. They locked eyes for a moment. Brooke looked at Peyton, the one constant thing in her life. She didn't want to lose her. She smiled and said, "Oh, what the hell," She moved in and hugged Peyton. "I'm here for you P. Sawyer." They hugged and both had tears running down their cheeks. They both knew that they would have to work hard to repair their friendship, but it was worth it.

When the hug ended, they looked at each others faces, tears running down their eyes. They laughed and wiped their tears. Brooke sat back down un the chair, "So, rough day yesterday."
