After going to the hospital and making sure Peyton was okay, Haley and Nathan headed home. "Hey." Nathan ran a hand along her cheek, feeling strangely numb. It was safe here, in Haley's arms. If they could stay like this, under the covers forever, nothing else could hurt them. They wouldn't have to visit Peyton and see the devastation Jimmy had caused for her. They wouldn't have to see the looks in Lucas and Karen's eyes without Keith - but no. He wouldn't think about that now, where it was safe.

Even as he ordered thoughts of his uncle away, they only came in a quicker barrage. He didn't know Keith too good but Nathan knew him well enough to know Keith would call him out for hiding. He knew Haley would too, if he mentioned it to her. He also knew she would never do it. His Haley was - is - strong, stronger than he even knew. He learned that from today's events, at least. She would deal with the tragedy waiting to accost them the second they stepped out of their home. she would deal whether Nathan would or not and that thought made him shudder involuntarily.

"Hi." She Replied, settlingly herself closer to him. She woke up feeling happy and safe in his arms, but it immediately turned to guilt. She felt guilty for being happy, safe, alive, when the people closest to her were suffering, in pain, or gone forever. But she didn't want to think about that now, she shifted her attention back to Nathan and lightly kissed his cheek. She felt him shudder and wondered if he was okay... Of course he wasn't okay, they had just been through a horrible ordeal. "What are you thinking about?"

"I'm trying not to," he told her as he stroked her hair. "This just doesn't seem real," he said after a few second's hesitation. Talking to Haley always helped him feel better and he didn't want to face the idea that her words might not make things okay this time.

"I know, like it was all just a bad dream." She let her thoughts drift again before getting up and leaving his comfortable embrace. "I'm going to go take a shower." She hoped it would help wash away the zombie like state she was in.
