When I was little, my grandmother made this very sort of mix every winter - only she used the instant Constant Comment tea in addition to the spices...

Sadly they discontinued the instant CC years ago, and I've spent most of my adult life trying to recreate that amazing flavor.

If you don't have tang, orange koolaid mix, or even lemonade mix can be used in a pinch.

Never saw instant Constant Comment. That would be a fine thing in this kind of blend. Hmmm......you may have started a quest....

I've tried it with instant orange koolaid and lemonade mixes, but the flavor isn't quite the same.

Agreed - it is not quite the same. But when all else fails, it at least bears a vague resemblance... :-)

If you manage to find instant CC, let me know!!! I haven't seen it in literally decades.

Oh - after the "shake until will mixed" step, it is usually wise to let it sit and settle for a while before opening. That lungful of tang & cloves can be mighty powerful!
