Jack-O-Lantern

Jack o' the lantern! Joan the Wad!
Who tickled the maid and made her mad!
Light me home, the weathers bad!

According to both Wirt Sikes and Jacqueline Simpson/Steve Roud (A dictionary of English Folklore), the jack-o-lantern was originally the local name given to the Will-o-the-wisp, in Welsh the Ellylldan or the Puck. These creatures carried ( Read more... )

That makes me glad that I wasn't raised with any religion. Did you just reject religion as you grew up or do you believe in God too?

I can't imagine life without Halloween! And not just because it's my birthday the day before.;P

i tried my family's religion on for size when i was younger, but it always felt forced. i have the sort of vague belief in a higher power that might never go away when you're raised the way i was, to be thinking about god and looking at everything a certain way.

That is pretty gruesome, I must say!

Speaking of...! Your Halloweenie package is in the mail! Naturally after I taped it up, I thought of a few other things to say so I'll say them here:

1. The CDs I made did indeed skip horribly (listened to them as I was cleaning m'room) so I didn't include them. Once we get this figured out, I will remake them for you! We have to get Edgar over one of these days so he can fix it.

2. I included some "squishy organ" toys but didn't notice that the tag said "ages 6 and over" so it's your call if you want to toss them before Rowan sees them! lol They look candyish but are just sort of gross but fun squishy things.

I really hope you get it before Halloweeeeeeen!!!! Oooo!

I really hope your package arrives to me safe and soundly or else I will be having severe words with my postie. I'm worried because not only did your package go missing but a couple of other things have, and it's getting really annoying now. *sigh* But anyway, hopefully there will be no problems with anything.

I find that ages on things is mostly irrelevant, unless it's got lots of little bits that an under three year old can swallow. But Ciaran plays with all Rowan's toys and I am sure the toy will be okay for Rowan. He'll be chuffed to bits. I am so looking forward to getting it in the mail; I wont be happy until I have it safely.:P

never carved a pumpkin... would be fun to try it out though. I'll see if I'll make it happen this year ;-)!

You should, it's loads of fun. Only, make a soup with the insides of the pumpkin though - so many people seem to just throw it all away!:/

I am sure I have a recipe for pumpkin soup in a cookery book I got the other day from a charity shop. I will find out and post it here as soon as I get a spare minute (I hardly seem to get chance to be on the computer these days!)

Well, it's always nice to know I'm useful in some way!:D

I was going to ask you, do you know if your mum sent your letter to me yet, only I haven't had anything so far. I'm a bit worried about the post of late as a lot of things keep going missing.:/

Some say the wisps lead to safety, souls who fell in the bogs and warn others. Some say that they lead them into the bogs. Still more say that they are there to lead you on a wild goose chase, then when you are completely lost they put out their light and let you wander back from wence you came.
