Summary: Moments before coming out to a convention audience, Jensen frets.
Notes: As it's NaNo time again, expect a few of these little J2 one-shots.
“They’ll think we’ve been lying to them for years.”
Jared looked up at his lover, pacing the backstage area as Jared sat in one of the chairs. “Jensen, that’s because we have been lying to them for years. But you know our fans: they’re fucking awesome. Once they get over the initial shock, don’t you think they’ll be happy for us?”
The worry line across Jensen's brow didn't lessen, but he did nod.
“C'mon, man. They’ve been imagining us in love longer than we have. They’ll probably have a virtual wedding party for us.” Jared laughed.
Jensen blinked. “…Wedding party?”
Jared's eyes widened. “Uh, I meant coming out party?”
“I just don't know, Jared.” Jensen ran his tongue over his lips in a nervous gesture. “Even though we waited until Supernatural was over, it’ll just mean everyone looking back at how so many scenes we shot have our feelings for each other in them, instead of Sam and Dean's.
“Once again, you know our fans,” Jared rolled his eyes. “They do that anyway.”
Jensen kept frowning. “And how are they going to treat the girls?”
“Honestly?” Jared asked. “I think they might actually like them more. Finally all the fans can realise that Gen and Danni are the coolest chicks ever. I mean, to help us keep up appearances until the show ended and we can announce this. Which we are going to do, in like two minutes.” A horrible thought crossed Jared's mind and was out of his mouth before he could keep it in check. “You still wanna do this, right?”
Jensen blew out a long breath and looked up at his partner. “Yeah. Yeah, for you, I still want to do this.”
Misha stepped off the stage to the roar of cheers. “Okay, guys, I've got them all warmed-up for you. We've been having an orgy of fun and crazy, so now's the perfect time to come clean about your fabulous gay love.”
Clif poked his head behind the curtain and nodded that they were ready.
Jensen grabbed Jared's hand like he was drowning and it was a life preserver.
“Would a kiss help?” Jared asked with a smile.
“It would save a human life,” Jensen replied, tilting his head up and capturing Jared's lips with his own. When the kiss broke, he took a deep breath and let it out again. “Ready to make a hundred fans explode?”
Jared nodded and hand in hand they walked onto the stage.
Neither got a word in edgewise as the fans saw their clasped hands, drew their own conclusions and screamed their approval as they snapped pictures.
Jensen bit his lip (and a hundred more flash bulbs went off all at once) and mouthed to Jared, “Shall we?”
Jared just smiled and leaned down to kiss his boyfriend as the fans joyful applause deafened them.
