Why is it that the gardens they use for their photos are so prissy perfect? The soil is perfect, the plants are perfect, and there's nary a weed to be seen. Grumble... A very good article though. I like the lists of perennials they have at the end of it. They let you know what you'll be in for a few years after you bring home that cute little plant. I tried to dig up an old peony once and finally gave up as I neared the one foot marker and after an hour of digging. How my grandmother put that peony out in that nearly solid rock hilltop of hers, I will never know. What really got my goat that day was that I could easily see that I was nowhere near the ends of the peony roots! I came home with several 2-3 inch long pieces of roots, put them out, and they lived! It was nearly 4 years before I saw the first bloom on them, but bloom they did. :)
I saw a segment on a gardening show that was fascinating. Been wanting to try one ever since but can't have one here I don't think. Too many flowers for SIL the flower hater.
