Maybe you just walked down the hall because it's been a long shift and you deserve a break.

Helen had seen many things, both wondrous and disastrous, throughout her lifetime. Being over five hundred had the tendency of allowing that. She'd been present at many large scale events - Earth wars, First Contact and varying peace treaties, the latter being in a medical capacity instead. Her life was dear to her, her memories and experiences precious. She'd seen the transformation of countless civilisations, the extinction of varying species of abnormals and even the evolution of others - evolution that helped them become the 'aliens' of today. As open and honest as she may usually have been, that part of her was still surrounded in secrecy - not for herself but for the abnormals. It was one of the reasons why she'd enlisted in Starfleet - to protect them. She'd served for years, avoided many questions and had ultimately done her job. It was those moments that she felt the most proud - of them, not of herself ( ... )

None of this, of course, was apparent to Jim as the woman approached, but he was no stranger to being approached by strange women, and he took it in stride as with being here to begin with.

He nodded, at her smiling, as she came up in front of him.

"Miss," he said.
