Ratings: PG. I think.

Summary:
Summer has arrived and Hyukjae is off to get a job - as a lifeguard for the community pool. Of course, it is most certainly the best place to be at for checking out the ladies (and a guy) and saving lost items (and a drowning girl.)

purple_garden . Happy birthday! ^^ I was saving this up as an escape plan to distract readers by the fact that I'm lazy something to bust out and continue when I want to write something random but I found out TODAY IS YOUR DAY and coincidentally, I have something to actually give you! XDD But it's short, I'm sorry o.o
Humor.
Hyukjae wakes up at six o’clock sharp in the morning and yawns loudly, bringing his arms high into the air for a stretch, followed by a few side twists and toe reaching. (Crack, crack. “Ah…”) He jumps to his feet and slips on a pair of furry monkey designed flops, accompanied by a matching furry hat of course. The curtains are pulled to the side and sunshine hits his face like no other, but he likes how it feels when his eyes quickly brighten up with the help of natural light. Hyukjae decides to slide the glass of the window off too and pokes his head out, taking a breath of fresh air.
“GOOD MORNING, KOREA!!!”
He would love to shout some more, but finally his mind registers that he’s not the only one in that room. Junsu from the other end blindly throws an object at him eyes closed (a ball of rubber bands, in fact) and it actually hits because he’s cool like that. He screams in his dolphin language while burrowing his head into the pillow. Someone’s not a morning person. Hyukjae frowns, ‘Oh yeah. The freeloader.’
Today was the official start of summer and Hyukjae couldn’t be any more excited! Other than the fact that his best friend was carelessly munching away his food supply, that is. Usually Junsu would rather die than admit that Hyukjae was absolutely awesomely awesome or that they were best friends because they both think they are superior to the other. (That will probably never change until the day they have their last breath.) This particular summer, Junsu and his parents got into a fight about…girls. Who else is there to give him a hand? Hyukjae thinks it’s stupid - the fight wasn’t even that bad and now there’s junk in the house, there’s an extra toothbrush in the house, and there’s a nightlight in the house (“Are you serious? ARE YOU SERIOUS?” “I can’t sleep without it okay? Deal with it.”) His parents pamper Junsu like a baby and it irritates him to no end. His sister wasn’t even as close to that nice to him when he fell down the stairs and broke his arm.
However…there were certain plans for the summer. A mastermind plan, if Hyukjae could say so himself.
“Let’s get ourselves a job,” Hyukjae slammed down the local newspaper on the empty space of the desk.
“What? No!”
“Yes! Think of the extra pocket money! Think of the girls that will swoon all over as when we’re - or well, maybe only I will be the hot one but think of us as lifeguards!” He pointed to an ad for the newly remodeled community swimming pool. You worked five days a week from Tuesday to Saturday for four hours from 1 PM to 5 PM, paid minimum wage of six bucks for high school students.
Junsu spent at least two minutes straight laughing. “Flipping burgers under the heat is better than scooping up the bird poop and left-behind diapers in the kids’ pool. And I’m the one that girls swoon over. Look at yourself.”
“But what about the money?” Hyukjae frowned.
“Oh my mom always hands me a decent amount at the end of each week.”
“…Mama’s boy.” He would have to apply for the job alone. Junsu’s loss for missing out!
“What if you fail at your job, Hyuk?”
“I don’t know, I could make videos or be a nanny! Girls love the father image…right?”

Hyukjae peered through his sunglasses with a perverted grin, on his fifth day of work. This is how you should spend the summer. All the girls were in their nice, colorful bikinis and swimsuits, splashing water at each other and diving in or showing off their swimming skills. Hyukjae likes it when one of them does the backstrokes. Junsu wasn’t kidding about the diapers. He scrunched his nose as he slowly made his way to the edge of the pool, using a stick he found on the ground to reel it in, also using the stick to dump it in a trash bag. When he is a parent, one thing he’ll do for sure is pick up his child’s garbage, thank you very much. So far, there is a deflated beach ball, three rings, a bracelet, and goggles up for grabs by his side for anyone that lost it.
It’s 2:30 PM and even in his white T-shirt and shorts he’s melting under the sun and the “water” that is in his hair isn’t even pool water. Lifeguards have to be ready at all times. Lifeguards like him can’t swim unless someone is drowning. Wonderful. Hyukjae lounges on a chair and closes his eyes - just for a few seconds. And no one would know because of his sunglasses, right? Sometimes there are splashes but his position right now is perfect.
Hyukjae wakes up at 3 PM because a girl in a dull childish swimsuit about thirteen is flailing her arms everywhere in the water at the deeper eight feet side when she can’t swim. She’s off alone in her own corner (nobody notices but Hyukjae); poor girl, she must be drinking in a lot of the water into her nose. She’s on his left and she knows that he can see her. On the other hand…the right side of him seemed much more…inviting.
“Hot damn.”
A boy to his right is toned and built; obviously he’s been at the gym for quite some time. ‘His hair is like Johnny-Depp-sexy.’ …No, really, it is. Well anyway, he has fluffy chestnut brown hair full of volume and his eyes are big and just…just…glowing. Actually, his whole body is glowing to Hyukjae but that doesn’t really count. His walk is fierce and charismatic - everyone’s eyes are on him as he flings a navy blue beach towel over his shoulders with a bottle of sunscreen. He sits down on a chair oblivious to his own aura of sexiness. The boy is having trouble applying on the sunscreen on his back and other parts of his torso, Hyukjae notices. Oh yes, Hyukjae would love to massage his hands all over him.
AND AS A LIFEGUARD, HIS OBLIGATION IS TO HELP ANYONE REQUIRING ASSISTANCE. But there’s a girl drowning to his left.
‘This is a tough decision,’ he puts his hand on his chin, deep in thought.
“Mmfh! MMFT! HELP - Mmfh!”
“Oh hey, could you give me a hand?”
‘This is a very tough decision,’ Hyukjae glances between the both of them and walks to the right. ‘They say that you should follow your heart!’
He’s happily squirting the sunscreen onto his hands and biting down his gummy grin when he gets there and offers help. “I’m Hyukjae, you?”
“Donghae,” the boy answers and rolls over, sighing in content. Nothing better than a massage in the warm sun, eh?
“MMMMMMMMFFFFHHHHH!!!”
Donghae perks his head up, an eyebrow raised. He searches for the origin of the sound and gasps when he finally sees the teen girl way in the back drowning and kicking her legs, flapping her arms like her life depended on it. (It probably did.)
“Hey, you think we should go help her?” Donghae worries and sits up, ready to dive in any second. Hyukjae pushes him down.
“Oh no, she’s fine. She’s probably having the best time of her life there! Relax.” Hyukjae hurriedly throws a lifesaver at her just in case.
“MMMFH! MMFH! Mmfh…mmmfh…”
“Oh my god! She’s drowning!” Donghae rushes over and jumps into the water, swimming his fastest and reaching out for the sinking girl. He carries her up and they’re on land again. He pats her back repeatedly as she’s trying her best to breathe, coughing out water all at the same time. This gets the attention of the whole community pool - a crowd is forming and Hyukjae sneaks to the front and pretends to help her, wrapping her with a random towel he found on the ground. People are praising Donghae endlessly and Hyukjae is barking out orders (“YOU, GET HER SOME WATER. HEYHEYHEYYYY don’t think I didn’t see that. PEOPLE, GIVE THE POOR GIRL SOME SPACE.”)
When the girl regains herself, her face is still red and her nose and her lungs hurt like hell. She points an accusing finger at Hyukjae.
“Jackass. I know you saw me way before he did but NOOOOO, you left me to die!” She hissed through gritted teeth.
Hyukjae receives his first and last paycheck.
