le vent nous portera translation

Jun 11, 2007 12:59

Been meaning to translate this since I was 15. Noir Desir's "Le Vent Nous Portera".

Also, good translations of Noir Desir songs just don't exist. And I felt this one needed a translation cause it's gorgeous.

"Je n'ai pas peur de la route
Faudrait voir, faut qu'on y goûte
Des méandres au creux des reins
Et tout ira bien
Le vent l'emportera

(I am not afraid of the route
We'll have to see, we'll have to taste
Meandering in the small of the back
And everything will be alright
The wind will carry it)

Ton message à la grande ourse
Et la trajectoire de la course
Un l'instantané de velours
Même s'il ne sert à rien

(Your message to the Great Bear
And the race course
A velvet snapshot
Even if it's useless)

Le vent l'emportera
Tout disparaîtra mais
Le vent nous portera

(The wind will carry it
All will disappear but
The wind will carry us)

La caresse et la mitraille
Et cette plaie qui nous tiraille
Le palais des autres jours
D'hier et demain
Le vent les portera

(The caress and the small change
And this wound that we pull
The house of different days
Of yesterday and tomorrow
The wind will carry it)

Génetique en bandouillère
Des chromosomes dans l'atmosphère
Des taxis pour les galaxies
Et mon tapis volant dis?
Le vent l'emportera
Tout disparaîtra mais
Le vent nous portera

(Genetics slung over their shoulder
Chromosomes in the atmosphere
Taxis for the galaxies
And what about my magic carpet?
The wind will carry it.
All will disappear but
The wind will carry us)

Ce parfum de nos années mortes
Ce qui peut frapper à ta porte
Infinité de destins
On en pose un et qu'est-ce qu'on en retient?
Le vent l'emportera

(This perfume of our lifeless years
This power that strikes at your door
Infinities of destinies
We put out one choice and what's left?
The wind will carry it.)

Pendant que la marée monte
Et que chacun refait ses comptes
J'emmène au creux de mon ombre
Des poussières de toi
Le vent les portera
Tout disparaîtra mais
Le vent nous portera

(Meanwhile the open tidal wave
And everyone is starting over again
I'll take you to the hollow of my shadow
Dusts of you
The wind will carry it.
All will disappear but
The wind will carry us.)"

Notes:

*Big Bear apparently is what we would understand as the Big Dipper.

*I am not 100 percent sure of the difference between "le vent les portera" and "le vent l'emportera". they seem to be the exact same thing, but said differently.

*Même s'il ne sert à rien: seems to be a varation of the common phrase "Même si ça ne sert à rien" (even if it's useless).

*"Palais" technically means Palace but it seems to be translated as "house" a lot.

*"Et mon tapis volant dis?" gave me so much trouble. I had never seen "dis" stuck at the end of a sentence like that. Someone over at linguaphiles helped.

*"Ce parfum de nos années mortes"- technically, "This perfume of our dead years"; but I think "lifeless" fit the feel of the song more. Either one means the same thing.

*"Ce qui peut frapper à ta porte" Technically: "This power that strikes at your door", but "Frapper à la bonne porte" means "to come to the right place". So it could mean: "This power that came to your place".

*"On en pose un et qu'est-ce qu'on en retient?". This gives more insight into this line.

The last verse is still not really translated- waiting for extra help. I think I know what he is trying to say, but I don't know how to translate it.

Basically, what I think he is saying, is that: everyone is frittering their life away, counting up what they have, what they own, while the end of it all awaits, and it is going to happen (a tidal wave; marée monte). But he wants to take this person with him to his shadow (figuratively), and stay with them.

This makes sense, since the first verse sounds really... romantic to me. Ahahaha... uh. (That, and I'm used to seeing "toi" in a romantic sense. If he just meant "you" as anyone I feel he would have re-worded the sentence and said "tu" or "vous".)

I COULD BE WRONG THOUGH I'M JUST CONFUSED ON THAT VERSE ENTIRELY
