This is the way i see it, the mp3's are good for a few things

-you can hear a whole album to see if you like it before you actually buy it
-Thru the magic of soulseek you can get records (which is only really helpful if you dont own a record player)
-if you only like one song by a certain artist you can get only that song and save yourself the possibility buying a cd with only one good song on it.

I like mp3's a lot, but I also really like owning actual cd's and records, i dont know why. Im thinking i really like the packaging and inserts and such. Plus all the bands i listen to i usually see live constantly so i support them all the time by just going to the show and buying merch.

the music industry is a harsh place...learn to outwit it or suffer from it.

i have an ipod and do both (cd shopping and mp3 dl/buying). Either way, getting new music is fun. Just use logic to figure out what form of which albums to buy (ie: avoid 15 dollar cds when you can get them on iTMS for say, 9.99, and when there's a cd on sale for 5 bucks, go to the store and buy it there).

There's a certain amount of satisfaction to be derived from both.
