This is a very good read if you haven't already read it: Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I think it's even a National Book Award Finalist too.
Also, Bee Season by Myla Goldberg was good, however, the movie looks stupid.
And this is a Christmas read but it definitely fits your personality: Shepherds Abiding by Jan Karon. One of my favorites.
I've also read two books by Orson Scott Card: Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. Even though it's Sci Fi, I still enjoyed them immensely!

and also, omg, ender's shadow is like the best book ever (and ender's game is a close second). and i don't think the "even though it's sci fi" is fair .. should be more like "BECAUSE it's sci fi". everyone needs to branch out a lil bit.
further, jen, if you've never read angela's ashes (maybe you have), you should get on that. and although you gave me middlesex, i dunno if you ever read it, but if you haven't, you should do that too.
