We spent a while perusing the shelves, looking at books we've liked, not liked, or still want to read. Ooh I've got a couple!

This is a very good read if you haven't already read it: Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I think it's even a National Book Award Finalist too.
Also, Bee Season by Myla Goldberg was good, however, the movie looks stupid.
And this is a Christmas read but it definitely fits your personality: Shepherds Abiding by Jan Karon. One of my favorites.
I've also read two books by Orson Scott Card: Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. Even though it's Sci Fi, I still enjoyed them immensely!

speak was a good one .. though i read it in like middle school. not that that's bad.

and also, omg, ender's shadow is like the best book ever (and ender's game is a close second). and i don't think the "even though it's sci fi" is fair .. should be more like "BECAUSE it's sci fi". everyone needs to branch out a lil bit.

further, jen, if you've never read angela's ashes (maybe you have), you should get on that. and although you gave me middlesex, i dunno if you ever read it, but if you haven't, you should do that too.

Speak is definitely presently applicable, Eddie had to read it his Freshman year at Grand Valley. And LIttle Women is one of my fav books ever!!!!

I also loved Ender's Shadow and Ender's Game (the others in the series weren't quite as good). Also, I think we've discussed this before, but you should definitely read East of Eden by John Steinbeck. SO good!!!!!!!
