The holidays have quite exhausted me - I'm glad that Epiphany is just around the corner so the tree might finally come down and life get back to normal. That said though, it was an excellent holiday not least because of:
I hosted my first ever family Christmas Eve at our home, and felt the need to outdo myself with things I'd always wanted to try but had never got around to. The result was a roast goose with all the trimmings. My mother-in-law helped out with the dishes, while my husband supplied the prosecco. For dessert, I baked a towering coconut cake, and might have stopped there, but for the terrifically inspirational buches de noel that
louiselux and
emungere posted on their journals. I wound up having to make one too, albeit a bit on the fly. Mine was brandied chestnut mousse in a chocolate cake with whipped ganache frosting, which everyone agreed was a wee bit on the rich side coming after all that goose. It made a lovely snack the following day, though. XD
We had all sorts of great friend moments over the holidays. The unexpected dinner guest was a lot of fun, and the cards were delightful. I ran into someone I'd not heard from in years on the internet, which was nostalgic and wonderful, and then got an e-card from my sister, which was quite a treat - it's always fun trying to sound out the Czech half and guessing at which words actually translate to which parts of the English half.
As in, I actually wrote some. XD
A little Hikago fic about Akari that I wrote for
issen4. It's got cultural errors, but it was fun to speculate on Akari's life beyond the series, and a nice little challenge.
The other piece I did was for Yuletide -
an Antique Bakery fic. I really enjoyed the prompt, for all that I procrastinated to hell and gone as always. It was a bit daunting writing for someone with whom I was actually familiar, but in the end the story came together better than I'd hoped.
*yawns* Now to go get some sleep. Tomorrow, I start in on my resolution to train for a 5K charity walk. :)
