Fairy, faery, or fey: how do you refer to them?In other news, I've decided to climb Mt. Evans this summer, and my sister wants to come. While I'd love her company, I'm a little worried about her propensity for altitude sickness. Still, if she's game, I'm not going to tell her no. I will pack plenty of water, aspirin and sunscreen though. I wish ( Read more... )

You shouldn't refer to them! Not using euphemisms annoys them, and they git you. (Having a discussion about magical beliefs in my native land with a similarly ethnicized person, he then said, "Hey, we've been talking about this for fifteen minutes, and neither of us have said the F-word. You say it first." And then there was the time I was on a trip out the wesht with a US friend, and we were having a little walk and every other word out of her mouth was "fairies" *looks round nervously* and every time we tried to get back to the very visible, very close car there was an obstacle in our way, till I rather tersely said "They prefer the term, 'Good People'", she called out "I'm sorry to have offended you, Good People!" and we took just a few dry steps on solid ground back to the car. Which was a pleasant change from having been up to our ankles in bog water.) Naturally, that's all nonsense, and nobody believes in them anymore!

Of course, of course! *giggles* I'll keep 'Good People' in mind as a more appropriate reference to those f-er, folk in whom no one believes anymore, though. Just in case. XD

I have a story on the front burner that I literally gave up on years ago. It's a weird thing! So remember: unfinished doesn't always mean forever.

O_o That is indeed unusual, but it does give one hope!

Of course now I can't help being curious about it. I just discovered "Symbiosis" recently, and remembered all over again how much I love your writing. Good luck with your front burner story! XD

It's a bit like telling stories to myself, but even though they come out of my own imagination, I'm never really sure how they're going to go until I write them down

That's always so keen *when* it happens. Alas that it doesn't always. And then I have to go back to telling myself the story at night half asleep in the dark to find out.

It's funny how conducive night and darkness are to storytelling. :) A holdover from childhood and the glory of reading books long past one's bedtime perhaps?
