Because flemmings asked what a butterkeep was, here's my latest. :)




A butterkeep - glazed in cobalt under a cone 6, non-reduction clear glaze. I used cobalt carbonate for the stain, and like it much better than the cobalt oxide I've tried before... er, but that's pot geekery for you. ^^;;



As for what a butterkeep actually is, this picture shows it a bit better. You press butter into the cup of the lid, then fill the reservoir with a bit of water. When you replace the lid (inverting the butter cup), the butter is sealed in and kept cool by the water, however it remains spreadably soft, since it isn't being stuck in a refrigerator. Since I love buttered toast, but cannot abide margarine or "butter flavored spread" products, butterkeeps are pretty essential to my kitchen.



And one last shot just to show the water a bit better.

I'm pretty pleased with how this keep came out, and I've another one set to fire sometime next week.
