To date, I've yet to find someone with higher standards for friendships than myself:

A friend is someone connected to you emotionally.
It doesn't matter how many times a day you hang out.
It doesn't matter how close you live to each other.
All that matters is that s/he comes to learn more about you with each passing day.
And is fully aware of it, and appreciates it.
But it has to be mutual, I've come to discover.
You have to make it a point to learn about your friends, so they can learn about you.

This thinking, in my opinion, goes hand-in-hand with this statement:

A friend is someone who stays close despite physical interaction / separation.
You may not see them on a constant basis, and you won't be forced to either.
But when you do, it's as if nothing has changed.
And if anything, you have only managed to get closer, not farther apart.

Ideally, nothing will have changed, if you were truly friends with that person and built your relationship upon knowing them, not just seeing them ( ... )
