I've been at two separate late stage startups where I got to watch the transition to a sociopath run organization in action. It made me so glad I'm a contractor.

Edit: by the way, this happens even if the organization starts with a loser or clueless at the top, and not a sociopath. Sociopaths are good at buttering up losers and clueless above them - who then don't stay above them for long.
