i filled up my car this week for $1.81/gal. i haven't seen those gas prices in california in ten years... back in teh wild 'n' crazee 1998. in fact, i have a distinct memory of pulling up to that exxon-mobil station off of the 101 in arcata, halfway filled with dread, because unleaded 87 was posted at a whopping expense of $1.89/gal. at the time

insanity, yes? since i don't have no car no more, i don't pay as much attention to the gas prices as i used to, but i was walking home from the library last week and passed an arco station and i almost fell down because gas was $1.75. strangely, i also thought about how i hadn't seen gas that price since i lived in arcata. *cue eerie music*
