i filled up my car this week for $1.81/gal. i haven't seen those gas prices in california in ten years... back in teh wild 'n' crazee 1998. in fact, i have a distinct memory of pulling up to that exxon-mobil station off of the 101 in arcata, halfway filled with dread, because unleaded 87 was posted at a whopping expense of $1.89/gal. at the time ( Read more... )

tonight when i left my temp job at brooks institute, i drove down a.p.s. to cota and across town to my house. i washed dishes, changed clothes, had a snack, then got to work on my computer. somewhere around 6:00, i noticed it smelled like someone had a fire going in their fireplace. i also noticed the breeze had picked up, and it felt hot and dry.
