In the last year, one of my aunts died of lung cancer that spread to her body. Before that, one of my uncles (different branch of the family tree) died after fighting for years with a ruptured hernia that nearly killed him- and, eventually, complications from an incompetent hospital did.
And now my great-aunt Anna looks to be next. Not of any particular health complications, but because the parts are past the warranty; she is 97 years old and one of the most amazing people I know, but her health is just decaying at an accelerating rate.
So for whatever it's worth, I understand. I understand the indescribable anxiety of the knowledge that someone you care about is about to die and there's nothing you can do. (Exams precluded the funerals for both relatives.)
Be strong. Even as other lives end, do not stop your own.
