[Background] Not much is known about Byakuran's past... aside from the fact that he's uberhax and knows it. :|
Byakuran came out of nowhere as the head of the Gesso family, and approached the then leader of the Giglio Nero family with an offer - kill a certain swordsman and the Gesso would give their family amnesty for five years. Unfortuntely, due to a certain turncoat by the name of Genkishi, that plan failed and the Giglio Nero faced impending invasion. Enter Uni, the daughter of the late don of the Giglio Nero, who decided to confront Byakuran face to face about forming an alliance, much to the protests of her loyal family members.
Of course, being all-knowing as he is, Byakuran saw all of this coming and in fact planned for Uni to come to him all this time. It's unsure exactly what he did to the poor girl, but after their meeting Uni became traumatized and almost zombie-like. Popular opinion suggests that he brainwashed her, as she throws herself infront of Byakuran when Gamma attempts to go after him, and swears to follow "Byakuran-sama" until the day she dies.
This marks the beginning of the forced Gesso and Giglio Nero alliance, and the formation of the Millefiore family. The two families are split into two factions within this new alliance, the Black Spell consisiting of the leftover Gigilio Nero who specialize in direct combat, and the White Spell, members of the Gesso family who specialize in tactical warfare. Byakuran's goal is simple - to obtain the 7^3 (tres ni sette), a collection of items that are made up of the seven pacifiers of the Arcobaleno, the seven rings of the Vongola, and the seven Mare rings of the Giglio Nero. When the alliance was formed he automatically came in possession of all the Mare rings and the Sky-attribute pacifier of the Arcobaleno as it belonged to Uni's mother who passed it on to her daughter after she passed away.
From that point on, Byakuran began to wage war on both the Arcobaleno and the Vongola family, exterminating whoever would stand in his way. He created a special radiation that worked opposite the curse of the Arcobaleno, which aged them and caused them to die slowly. He also sent assassins after the Vonogola and anyone who associated with them, including their close friends and family. When the future Tsuna Sawada had the Vongola rings destroyed, he enlisted the help of Shoichi Irie to research time travel to retrieve the rings from the Vongola's past selves.
As of right now Byakuran's chilling out in his base in Italy, letting his subordinates do all his dirty work for him. He's had to deal with a few problems of his own (namely one Rokudo Mukuro infiltrating his base to leak information and attempt to kill him, but he totally saw all that coming so it wasn't a huge deal) but for the most part he coo'. Oh yeah, and there's that bit where his most beloved subordinate Shoichi decided to turncoat, but again, knew it was gonna happen and was fully prepared, right down to giving out fake Mare rings to trick his own people. He's confronted Tsuna and gang via hologram, giving them 10 days to rest and get prepared before he decides to rain unholy terror in the form of the real six Funeral Wreaths onto all they know and love.
[Personality]Byakuran is possibly the happiest bastard to exist ever. He approaches everything with an extremly care-free attitude, even when confronted with an attempt on his life. He takes nothing seriously and is almost always seen with a huge (and extremely creepy) smile on his face.
He is cruel, and will force his subordinates to take extreme measures to prove their loyalty to him. He enjoys playing mind games and taking advantage of those with weak wills. Byakuran loves to tease, regardless of the situation, and apparently takes great pleasure in the pain of others.
Regardless of his malicious personality, people are inexplicably drawn to him. He knows how to charm others, and is an excellent negotiator because of this.
[Specialties/Abilities] No one's really sure what Byakuran's abilities are. They haven't been revealed at all in canon and the one time he was forced to fight it was purposefully cut out to retain his mysteriousness. Shoichi describes Byakuran as having "the power of God" but even he is unsure of what his true potential is. The only thing that is known is that he was able to turn Uni into a pawn of his, possibly via a form of brainwashing, and that he critically injured Rokudo Mukuro when they fought without receiving a single scratch. Byakuran in is possession of the Sky Mare ring, so it is safe to say that his fighting skills are of significant strength.
In one of the DS REBORN! fighting games, Byakuran is depicted as having a white tiger for a box weapon. What this box does is completely unknown.
