A good friend is in big trouble and I don't know what to do about it.
I can't go into details here, but he's in a real pickle. It involves gobs of money, it involves lawyers, and he's looking at what could be financial ruin. Everyone involved is playing hardball with one another and he's stuck in the middle, faced with ever mounting bills and debts, and he has no money to pay for any of it. People in positions of trust took advantage of him left, right, and centre, and they're all looking out for their own pocketbooks, regardless of how much it fucks him over.
He's crying at work, almost breaking down in front of customers, but he's not allowed to leave. All of his other friends -- who he used to think would drop everything to help him if needed -- are keeping him at arm's length, not wanting to hear about it. He hasn't slept in weeks and he's barely eating. He's telling me quite matter of factly that he's going to jump off his balcony or one of the big bridges. He has absolutely no idea what to do, and no one is helping him.
I've been trying to talk him down for the past few days, but it's gotten to a fever pitch today. I told him to talk to his lawyer so that he knows where the negotiations stand. I've also told him to make sure his lawyer knows his financial situation so that the other lawyer knows that there's no money to be extracted here. No blood in this stone.
I'm also begging him to see a doctor. The waiting list for his normal doctor can be weeks so I told him to go to a walk-in. I told him that my doctor doesn't have line ups, and that he's right on Robson, just a few blocks from where he works. Please go talk to him and he can either help out directly or give a referral to an expert. Suicidal thoughts -- and they sound very serious -- are something that have to be dealt with right now. There's only so much I can do, but I don't know if my message of "get help" is getting through. I tried to get him to promise to see a doctor over the phone, but the message didn't seem to register.
I don't know what to do here. He's really falling apart.
