I work for a big company, and this company makes a lot of money. While I have no real complaints about my salary, I think we're getting shafted in terms of our once-a-year bonus

Gosh, what must it be like to work for a company that actually gives bonuses!
Seriously, someone in your company needs to learn better how to handle internal PR. That kind of obvious disconnect is not a good way to keep employees.

No kidding. I mean, if they want to be greedy and keep all the profits to themselves, at least they shouldn't brag about it to all the people who actually generated that money for them.
Hell, in my first year with the company, the IT sector was in a major slump. I was in the last batch of new hires before a company-wide hiring freeze was instituted. There were layoffs everywhere, and I was worried I'd be let go too. But in the end, even with all that teeth gnashing, there was still a bonus, although I was told that it was much smaller than people were used to.
Now this year, which is by all accounts one of our best years ever, we get hardly anything?
Let me put this in perspective: My bonus in that shitty year where people were being laid off like crazy was TWICE AS BIG as my bonus when we're making record profits. Something's not right.
yeah i don't get how the information about your sales goals wasn't shared with the team... is that standard corporate practice? Are they worried you will slack and not work hard once a goal is met?
Well I would, but I've hardly seen anyone in this company worth putting out for, even with a payoff. I've got standards and they'll only slide so far.
As for tearing new ones for the head honchos? Yeah, that sounds good. I take it Europe is a bit less tolerant of corporations taking advantage of the little guy?
Well, not quite (me being a point in case.) They just frown on MASS abuse of the little guys. Individuals are fair game, but you can't piss off so many people that the Power That Be would notice.
Standards... I remmeber those. Getting them surgically removed was one of the best ideas I ever had. LOL

Ok just ranting. Every once in awhile someone reminds me that those in the private sector (my sister) get huge bonuses.
But I know you deserve it. So, that's a bummer!

The good thing in France is that if we ever had such a sutuation, our syndicates would tear the head honchos a collective new one. LOL
