Israeli Cinema

Since I just completed a class on Israeli cinema and since it was one of the best classes I've ever taken, I thought I'd give an overview of all the movies I saw. I was not expecting to be blown away by any of the movies in the class for some reason; I guess I misjudged Israel. Actually, it doesn't have that potent of a film industry in the sense ( Read more... )

I did end up watching Kippur last night. It's fucking mind-altering.

What would you recommend next, after that?

I'm glad you liked it as much as I did. I was afraid I hyped it up too much. Unfortunately, it's the only film of his that I've seen, so I can't really recommend anything from experience. I plan on watching Kadosh very soon, though, and I've heard that's another really good Gitai film, though a bit more about religion than his usual films.

He's made over 20 films, I believe, and from what I hear, they are all of pretty high quality, so I don't think you could go wrong with any of them.

If you want to see something else from Israel but by a different director, I highly recommend Cup Final, especially because I can tell that you are attentive to problems of race.

I'm going to jot some of these titles down and keep my eyes out for 'em, thanks!

I remember struggling to get through Exodus , but for some reason, I always liked the soundtrack. Fond memories of listening to it on an 8-track as a child.

I think it's apparent from my descriptions as to which films I recommend most highly out of those, but I hope that you find some use out of this overview.

Exodus is really hard to watch, but it makes a great background for sleep. Maybe it's because of that music.

cup final is the best movie about soccer ever made? are you sure you wanna put it past bend it like beckham? further more, any vinnie jones movie? are you sure you wanna mess with vinnie jones? i dunno if i'd want to.

p.s: goddamn you like movies. i applaud your effort.

p.p.s: to answer an old comment you left me...somewhere...i like chamillionaire but i don't think he's anything really earthshattering.

Your argument has not shaken my belief that Cup Final is the best movie about soccer ever made, although that Indian girl in Bend it Like Beckham is pretty hot. I did enjoy that movie too.

I didn't know who Vinnie Jones is, but I just looked him up. You are right, not the type you want to mess with.

I agree, the Chamillionaire album isn't that great. I was kind of disappointed. His mixtape stuff (especially The Man on Fire) and his stuff with Paul Wall is better. I think he just kinda choked when stepping up to the plate, but hopefully his next album will be great.

Maybe I should do this for my Latin American cinema class. There were some really amazing films.

That would be great! I know next to nothing about Latin American film, but I would definitely like to see movies from that area.
