call me on my cellll phoooone
I went to a film festival/awards show last night for films made for, and sometimes made with, cell phones; all only one minute long. My favourite one unfortunately isn’t online, but its premise was: actors recording a message to you saying how much they miss you, so you can then play it to other people and say “this is my girlfriend/boyfriend.” The film was part of a longer project entitled “Imaginary Lovers” by Toronto artist Don McKellar. Many others, however, are online, and some of my other favourites are below. The show was hosted by Seán Cullen, who is incredibly funny. He has crazy eyes. His best joke ended up being a pun about people hunting their own families with just their thumbs... It's one of those “you had to have been there” things.
