So I know this makes me a horrible person, but boo-hoo about the Tornado hitting Iowa City. But before you all go hating and getting angry at me understand this. I've been personally through 4 or 5 tornadoes. I've also been through straight-line winds that left the majority of the state without power for between 3 days and a week. Know what I did when there were these disasters? I put on my boots, some old clothes and some leather gloves and worked to help clean it up. Not just my parent's property or close friends of ours, but anyone and everyones. After the straightline winds my father and I were the first people out on the main street of our town hooking-up to the down trees and pulling them into parking lots to clear the road for travel.

Now, personally I think a little destruction every now and then is a good thing. There were a lot of places in the area that got hit that were in need of repairs before the storm even hit. Some of what was seen on Iowa Ave in the pictures are in my opinion slum houses. The owners don't maintain the houses because they're lived in by students who essientially destroy them. And I don't blame the owners or the students. I see both sides, such as- Why invest the money if a place is gonna be destroyed? and Why try to take care of a place if you're just gonna party and be there for a year or less? Now this doesn't mean that I don't care that people could've gotten killed. The fact is that no one in the I.C. area did. All that happened is that people had property damaged. Don't complain, rebuild. And hopefully understand and appreciate that making it through the storm is more important than the damage that it caused to property.

I talked w/ a couple of people who were downtown right after it happened and I asked them, What were people doing? They were getting drunk, rubbernecking (looking at all the damage), taking pictures, and getting in the way of Police, Firefighters, and Ambulances. Maybe I was just brought up differently, to have maybe a little more common sense? With all the available man/woman power that was freed up on Friday from classes being cancelled, Why didn't the students just go out and help? I wish I could've.

I felt the need to vent and feel I have sufficiently. I also feel badly because I wasn't able to volunteer my time to help. Unfortunately I had to work, but I had my boots, a spare change of old clothing, and gloves in my trunk incase I got out early.

So tonight there's massive storms coming through and I hope for everyone's sake that nothing happens that can't be repaired, healed, or rebuilt. Everyone take care, I have to log now because I just felt the house shake from the weather (and this entry is a little long).

Later Folks...
