So Long And Thanks For All The Fish
So I wonder how many people still code in LJ. I bet it's very few. I still do for the lj-cut and that's about it. I don't do a whole lot of work on this thing. Hell, I'm rarely on this how it is. I looked and this is the first update for it since December. Let me tell you this. You haven't missed much. Here's the scoop.
I was working freelance, mostly for Big Ten Network, and also at FedEx. I made it to 90 days at FedEx before I gave them my two weeks notice. "Why?" you might ask, well, the answer is somewhat easy to explain. I found a full-time job with many upon many benefits. (I'll give more details later.) But I was enjoying FedEx up until my car decided to die on me, R.I.P., and I had to get a rental car for about two weeks in a row before we got a car that my dad had off it's blocks and back running. Freelance was going okay minus the fact that their payment periods suck or lack thereof.
So the job that I got was in renewable energy for a company called Acciona. The cool part is that the North American branch of this company is located in West Branch which is about 20 miles from where I live. The even cooler part is that I won't be working there. Buh? you might exclaim. Well the job that I applied for and got, both in the same day, is a traveling job as a Quality Assurance Technician. Basically I go out to the job site and go through a checklist on how the product is assembled and installed to make sure it's done properly. Now what's the product? This company builds wind turbines. I'll be based in Montana for the next few years while they assemble and bring online around 160-200 turbines.
Right now I'm going through a brief training period in West Branch for about another two weeks or so. After that the company is sending me for more training to their headquarters in Spain where I'll spend two more weeks training before I go out to Montana. Pretty sweet deal. Full benefits, company truck, they're paying for living expenses, a laptop, and cell phone. So everything for me is going to be going to the bank. Sure I'll be working 6 out of 7 days a week, but after working 4 weeks I get 4 days off with a free plane ticket to anywhere in the U.S. This means that I'll be contacting people to visit and just going buck wild on those 4 days. I'll have to after working 60+ hrs a week. (I've heard the average is closer to 75.)
There's more I'm forgetting I'm sure but right now I know I need to get some other work done, packing and paperwork sorting, but I also need to get to bed.
