Professor Sinistra was nice, really. Ginny liked her a lot. What she did not like was the way the woman insisted on choosing her pupil's pairs whenever they teamed up on something. It was always someone of a different house; she was always saying that they should get to know other houses better.
Normally, she didn't mind too much. But today, she had a rather large objection. She must have done something awful in a past life, she thought, because today she was paired with Zacharias Smith.
"Do you have to sit so close, Smith?" she asked, shoving her elbow towards his stomach. "Can I have some breathing room?"
"Well, Weasley, if you weren't taking up so much space, it wouldn't be necessary," he responded, scowling at her. Why, why had Professor Sinistra paired them up? She must've known that they didn't get along.
Ginny opened her mouth to snap back at him, to call him a git, or...something. She wasn't sure. But she soon became all too aware of how her knee was pressing against his, and her mouth did nothing more than hang open stupidly. Zacharias sported a satisfied look.
She shook herself out of her reverie, trying to think of an appropriate response, but her senses were becoming far too muddled by the warmth his body--so close to hers--was radiating. She shook herself again, finally being able to manage something. "Let's just do this and get it over with," she said, spreading her star chart on the table. She scooted away from him a little as she did so; the more distance between them, the better.
He looked over at her; their eyes made contact for a moment and then he looked away, scowling. "What's your problem?"
"Nothing," she replied, trying to sound disinterested. "Just giving myself some elbow room..." ...before I do something I'll regret.
