the first step is admitting that you have a problem...i also love grey's anatomy matt. i get angry at the hsow now, but it's only because i love it. i'm a little nostalgic for the second-season style they had going on, but i guess this is better than nothing ( Read more... )

Disagreed. The problem is not the machine. the problem is that in several decades no one has been able to convince the students why they should do something about it.

If you willingly give one person or group all the power you can't really complain about what they do. You have to find ways to put checks on it. here that check would be peopel actually voting and caring.

i've never denied the fact that popular apathy is equally to blame. however, that is not what i am arguing against. the existence of an aristocratic, biggoted, elitist mindset is what im arguing against.

that mindset is what drives our social structure still today. it's been atomized in the bulk of the population but when it comes to the "big players" in southern society, that frame of mind is still there. blaming the majority of the population for their apathy is appropriate, but it doesn't change the fact that this frame of mind is and will always be the problem.

besides, apathy, in my personal oppinon, is an implicit approval of the machine (and otherwise old southern) way of thinking. in that way, the apathetic people are not separate from this frame of mind, but are in fact a part of it. however, at best this leaves the problem unsolved; at worst it amplifies and intensifies the problem by providing it multiple channels by which to assert itself into our society.
